In the dimm light of a candle, Shimazu Takahisa reads the Hôjô letter, two times. Then he thinks.
"..."like fire"..."
He observes the little flame, bouncing and dancing on the burned black wick like Satsuma children in spring time.
"..."like fire"..."
He carefully holds the letter over the flame, until it starts burning. Lord Shimazu observes the burning edge of the letter for a moment...
"...without fire I would hardly be able to read your letter at this time of the night, Lord Hôjô."
He extincts the flame that slowly started to eat itself through the paper with his hand and lies the letter back on the table, in order to start writing his answer.
His muttering is accompanied by the smooth sound of his pencil.
"...a wise man... ...extincts... ...fires before... ...they burn... ...his house."

Yamana Yoshisada awaited in his tent, sitting under the shadow of Inaba castle. He paced to and fro, mulling over the events of the previous winter, and especially those of the autumn months. Still agitated, he sat down to read his letters from the Otomo and Oda. Looking at his arrow wound, he pondered over the conflict... he respected the strength of the Oda clan, but the Otomo scum deserved neither respect nor mercy, for the civil war they had caused.

Yamana was then interupted by his guard, calling him to see his grandfather, with Yamana promising he would meet him earlier in the day. The guard explained how he had lived through eighty winters, and that he still slept with two pistols under his pillow. Earlier on, a samurai of the Otomo clan and an Shimazu ashigaru had both been killed by the elderly man, but not before they killed the guard's father in the attack. Yamana was greeted by a nod of the head as he entered the old man's tent, who claimed to go by the name of Rudo-sama.

They continued to talk for several hours, and Rudo-sama explained how he had always dreamed of being a samurai, but was unable to due to the damage caused to his joints after a life of hard labour on his farm. While Yamana could not just make any man a samurai, he sympathised with the old man, and agreed to pay him fifty koku for his services, and would provide his arms if he would serve as an ashigaru. Rudo-sama was delighted, and Yaman was escorted to his tent for a night's sleep.

For everyones information; I have moved and left my computer behind. Thus, without tablet, photoshop, savefiles etc., I can no longer run map updates for a while. I doubt that is of any consequence though, since I wouldn't be surprised if the next chapter comes way past me getting a new computer and everything. No offense Kage. ;)

Still looking forward to this thing up and running again.

Just an OOC post, I used Revolting Friendship's map in a game I started on the TWC. The game uses the same time period as this one, but is a completely different concept. Just a heads up so we don't have issues like when the last IH that was similar to this one was made.
