I know how to take them, and I have many times but when I take them and come out of the game and try to open the file my computer can't read the file, do I need a specific program to do this?

You can use fraps.
You should be able to read your files just fine afterwards.

Norman Invasion - The fate of England lies in your hands...
Viking Invasion II - Unite Britain in the best TW campaign ever!
Gods and Fighting Men: Total War - Enter the Mists of Myth in Ancient Ireland
just press "print screen" key in game, come to windows, open paintbrush and press CTRL+V, then save the pictures as *.jpeg estension file to ocupy less size and be rdy for posting on websites.
If you dont like paintbrush you can always use Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, whatever...
There is also a program called Screenshot assistant that when you press the printscreen butoon it automatically save syour file in jpeg mode.
Hi ~Isabella of Castile~,
To view your existing files, although FRAPS can work on new ones, you need to download an image converter which can convert .tga files which are the files that R:TW stores screenshots in. I prefer to use this one, but a quick google search forImage Converters will find you many more if you don't like the look of that one. Hope this helps, cheers!

Dawn is nature's way of telling you to go back to bed
Isabella, your choice is IrfanView. It reads 99.9% of existing grafic formats, converts everything (including batch converting), you may even edit your screenshots via cutting and pasting the fragment you need.

Well, maybe 95.0%. And that's more than enough.Originally Posted by Bijo
At least it reads TGA ok. And can convert 300 (sic!) TGAs into 300 JPGs. Resize/resample. Cut a fragment, paste, save as, upload, enjoy.
An RTW player don't need no more.
