    Default Help

My stepmom's computer is messing up and the nice guy that I am I told her I'de help her fix it. I've ran a couple of different scans on said computer and found many different things on it(Trojans, Malware, Adware, etc.) I don't remember what the Trojans were called but they were some kind that would download other stuff onto the computer(bad stuff). After I quarantined those and deleted them I reran all the scans I had ran before and nothing came up wrong but now the computer's still freezing and locking up. Can anyone help me?

Make sure everything is updated since it may be some new stuff. I'm not much of an expert in stuff like this, but maybe do a Hijack this and post what you get. Also, go to system processes after ctrl-alt-delete and search the name of every program running under a user in google to see what they do. If you find some random program or a known virus or something, that would be it.

Without a more detailed description, I'd say it could be anything.
Not all antivirus scanners pick up everything, you may have a horribly fragmented hard drive, you may have a hardware problem, you may have a bad stick of RAM, you may have an overheating PC, you may have a poltergeist prssing the reset button when you aren't looking... anything!
What are you doing when it locks up? Are you using intensive games, internet, art packages or does it just randomly freeze?
If you really don't know when/why it's freezing, a reformat and fresh install of windows may do the trick nicely. If not, it's probably hardware related. Windows accumulates so much shit over time it is unbelievable, and the odd backup/reformat/reinstall can do wonders.

It's usually the internet or when she's looking at her e-mails. She doesn't play any games.
