Thread: Problem loading RTW
Rhyfelwyr 10:36 07-02-2007
I just installed RTW on my new vista premium comp, but the error message saying I don't have mss32.dll came up. The file is in the rtw folder in program files, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Any ideas?

Install the latest version of Direct-X 9.0c.

Vista comes with Direct-X 10 but that does not include the files required to run Direct-X 9 games so you can simply install Direct-X 9 to get those files.
This won't overwrite your Direct-X 10, so don't worry(you can check that by running dxdiag, to do so in vista type it into the search box in the start menu and then click on the executable, it will show you your current version of Direct-X, which should still be 10 after installing Direct-X 9).

Since my new comp doesn't have the internet, I'm having trouble finding a directx 9 installer that isn't a web installer. I found one calles DirectX_june2007_redist but I don't know where to extract the files to. Any help?

There should be a version on the game CD, not the newest but at least the one required to run the game. You can then update to a newer version later.

I suspect it is a system file. This link should allow you to download it whereafter -- if extraction was required -- it is to be placed in the proper location. I do not know this location, but you may discover it by your own effort or others'. I see you have the file already, so then simply skip the download.

The first logical step, however, would be to deinstall the game whereafter you reinstall it. This is the rawest, most easy, and safest route to select. If no success, then.... pray?

Hereafter, if not successful (after the praying I mean), try the Apothecary (though success is not guaranteed) or try official support.

EDIT: do not forget patches, just in case.

Copy mss32.dll from the CD. Should work.
