In the game Russian unique unit is "Boyar", the landed, social elite in Russia. They are trained to fight as a heavy cavalry bodyguard. Heavy mail and a combination of sword and bow make them powerful, but when these are combined with rigorous practice for war, they are a very effective force indeed.
But in reality which is a member of a Russian aristocratic order next in rank below the ruling princes. There were few of them, not regiments or groups of 20 and more, maybe one or two per army, per city, per province, and they were more politicians then warriors. They served as "major" of the city, or as a temporary replecement for the knyaz (millitary campaign, sudden death, etc), sometimes they lead armies as "generals" but very few were true generals. They were noblemen but not equal to the knight's nobility. Most of them were careless fat pigs. CA should have chosen "Vityaz" as the unique unit. Now they were the elite of Russian warriors, not Boyars. But thank to CA it will be editable.

Also Novgorod and "russia" can produce famous Housecarles.

I am afraid Cossacks are way to early for this game, which ends with the fall of Constantinople in 1453. The earliest document records of Cossacks date from 1490 when they fought in campaigns against the Turks and successfully conquered the Turkish fortress of Ochakov.

Exactly my point Rokkaku, and Vityaz would totally fit into that "...sum cooler unique units!" description.

    Most unique Russian feature?

RUSSIAN WINTER! And you won't have that modeled in the game.

I think the boyar will be a very special unique unit, because it will be an awesome heavy cavalry unit and a good cavalry archer. Thus you can destroy non spear infantry with heavy charge, and than destroy the spears and heavy cavalry with arrows from a safe distance.

It will be great, no argument here. But the "Heavy and Arrowy" description fits the Vityaz better.

Actually, Boyarin is one after Knyaz' (Prince) on a hiarchy pyramid. Boyars were
Druzhinniks (Prince's friends)aka Prince's personal war band and were an elite group of warriors, each prince had personal Druzhina, depending on his wealth anywhere from few hundred to a several thousand. Later on as feudal Russia was unified by Great Duchy of Moscow, Druzhinniks turned into Boyars, rank equailent to Western Europe's Count, Romanovs were once Boyars, and were elected by other Boyar families to be Czars of all Rus.

    PS
Knighthood was never practiced in old Russia
Vityaz', Ratnik, Voin, Voi- one of the names for the warrior
    Bogatyr'- warrior of immence strength

here's a link with pictures to various Russian armors and uniforms http://www.warclub.enjoy.ru/gallery/soldiers.html
