    Default Victory Video Help

    Hi everyone,

Just wrapping up a great H/H Parthia campaign. Latest patch (1.6?), BI installed. This morning I grabbed the last few provinces needed to reach 50 and then marched on Rome. Rome would be my 51st province and I'd win the game.

Assaulted Rome, won the battle, but had a CTD at the transition from the battle to the campaign map. This is very frustrating as I have never seen the "Eastern" victory video, despite having this game since it came out!

I had saved just at the battle by clicking to assault Rome with my besieging army, and escaping to get out of the parchment with the two crossed swords and the opposing forces. So I load up the latest save and this time autocalc. I won the autocalc but experienced a crash before I was given the option to Occupy, enslave, or Exterminate.

So I go back again and this time reload at the Autosave, which was a little farther back (by a minute or three) than my own latest save. Well, the Autosave won't even reload -- CTD.

I'm not sure what's the problem here. I just won a short campaign as Gaul and saw the victory video for them, so unless there's a specific problem with Parthia's video it shouldn't be that. My wife just captured Rome (as Macedon) in her own campaign, so it's not the elimination of the Senate that's causing this. My only thought is that it's related to taking Rome *as your final, victory-causing city*. Could that be it? Any ideas?

I know I technically won, but I want my cheesy little video reward!

    Hi CountMRVHS,
Sadly, this CTD is a frequent occurance in my game too - I think it may be related to taking the city of Rome. However, playing it again always, oddly, fixes it for me. If this tactic doesn't succeed, then, fortunately, you can easily watch the victory video outside of the game.

You can take this measure by simply entering your "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\fmvs\win" folder, if you have Gold, or "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\data\fmvs\win" if you don't. Sadly, though, I may have got this path wrong since I haven't got R:TW installed to check it. Luckily, though, a quick Windows search for "fmvs" should yield the required results.

Once you are in the "win" folder, you can easily click on any video which you want to watch and see it's beauty. Hope this helps, enjoy the videos, cheers!

Thanks very much for your advice -- I was able to find the videos and watch them in the folders. No sound, though... maybe a setting I need to adjust somewhere?

I still have that save, so I can go back and fight the battle myself, which I did after reading your post; but I didn't get any love the second time around either. Oh well; it's not like I was going to play on after that point anyway, and I did manage to get a kickass screenshot of my Parthian army in the streets of Rome, which now graces my desktop. I suppose in future campaigns I'll have to remember to try to grab Rome *before* the very end.

Don't worry, you don't have to change any settings. The videos themselves, oddly, don't have any sound - I believe that the sound you hear on the victory screen, and all other in game video screens, is simply background music.

Have you tried updating Windows Media Player?

I can't find the Thread and am a bit limited for time to look, but I'm certain I've heard of Rome FMV - particularly the sound - problems caused by that.

I'm interested to see if there might be a way round your problem. If you can send me a copy of your save game I'd try running it on my system to see what happens.
