Thread: Finally a word. WoT mod release.

  1. #1

    Default Finally a word. WoT mod release.

    As the title stated, I'll be releasing the work of me and Myrddral. It's not much, seeing that we both have had real life issues to deal with.

    And here's a readme, since I forgot to add one into the download rar, and I'm too lazy to upload another one.

    Wheel of Time - Total War
    Rome - Total War
    Early alpha

    ===================================================================
    Requirements
    ===================================================================

    -Rome Total War v. 1.5

    Also, I believe you need Barbarian Invasion

    ===================================================================
    Mod Description
    ===================================================================

    Well, you probably know what this is all about, but I'll let you
    know what it is no matter. This mod first intended to make the
    countries and units of the wheel of time series into the RTW engine.
    This was not, however, the final product of the mod, seeing that
    the first modding team broke up, and I joined to try and piece
    together something from the rubble that was left. But enough
    about tedious mod history.
    This mods features a few factions from the Whitecloak wars. They
    are not done, and only a few units are avaliable for each side.

    ===================================================================
    Installation
    ===================================================================

    - Backup your entire BI\data folder (or if you like living on the
    edge like me, forget about it)
    - Extract archive contents directly to your \BI folder
    - Start the game with your BI launcher.

    ===================================================================
    Compatability
    ===================================================================

    The Wheel of Time mod is not compatible with any other RTW:BI mod

    ===================================================================
    Troubleshooting
    ===================================================================

    You probably will encounter errors in this mod, seeing that
    it is only half way done. You may feel free to PM me on the forums
    or add me to MSN or whatever for any tech assistance.

    Credits & Thanks
    ===================================================================

    Thanks go to Myrddraal, for keeping this project going as long as
    he did and for his amazing models.
    To TurnLeft, for his work on the models.
    Special mention also goes to Andreas, Black_Draen, CrownOfSwords, and SMZ for their work on WoT - TW
    Err... And thanks to me for piecing together these things and coding it all.

    A pic. And since I can't seem to get my game up and running, it'll just have to be an old one. I'll get more once I get BI installed again.

    Picture (yes, banners are only working for one of the factions, I reckon.)

    And at last, the download

    I hope the mod works for now, seeing that I am unable to playtest it myself at the current time. Will update this post as soon as I can.

    Do you guys need any scripting help? I could do some of that for you.

    I will download this when my Internet becomes un-capped.

    We're done with the modding on this one. I'm the last member and I do not intend to start modding on a mod for RTW at this moment. Besides, the good Myrddraal, our modeller, don't have the time anymore, so there is little me or you could've done no matter. This is just a release of our work to see that our work wasn't for nothing.

    Yeah, because I updated the mod and removed a couple of minor errors. New link in post #2.

    (Since I cannot figure out how to edit my posts)

    Looks nice on the screenshots. Will probably download and try this later, when I get back to playing RTW.

    Elgen there should be a button that says Edit to the left of the Qoute button at the bottom of your post (at the same place as the SendPM on the posts of others). If you don't have it I assume it is due to being a Junior Member.

    We have this almost mythical tree, given to us by the otherwise hostile people in the east to symbolize our friendship and give us permission to send caravans through their lands. It could be said to symbolize the wealth and power of our great nation. Cut it down and make me a throne.

    I played the alpha here are my thoughts:

    Altara:
    I really like the altaran armsmen skin
    The altaran bandit skin had a wierd fuzz to it and I dont remember anyhting about axes did that come from the encyclopedia?
    The altaran pikemen units are good other than they arent pikemen but spearmen.
    The tarasin palace guard have a decent skin some wierd shade of green on them though.

    Murandy:
    I like the nobles skin other than some wierd thing with the chainmail on their legs they are good
    The armsmen have spears i think they should have swords like the altaran ones.

    Amadicia:
    Other than all the units share the same skin they look good!

    Im sad to see this mod go so much potential, hopefully i can rally some support for a mtw2 version

    and what ever happened to the aiel and trolloc skins?? they were cool and just fun to mess around with, but id like to sincerely thank you for the release.

    Yeah, but this lastest thing we tried to piece together was the whitecloak war demo.

    And about the skins;

    I know there are many errors and things like that in them, but I have no skill at editing skins or models, so I can do nothing about it.

    About Murandy armsmen;

    They are the same as the mounted ones. I just removed the horse to try and get some more variation. Didn't bother to change their weapon.

    I really think we should try to put together a MTW 2 team, many of the models are already there for us or close to being there. This game just cant go unmade, I will draw anything needed for the mod i have a scanner now so no more paint drawings that look like shit and take 5x longer to do.

    It is good to see at least something came of this, even if it fell far short of what was originally intended.

    We have a team at Westeros.org doing a Medieval 2 mod of A Song of Ice and Fire, George RR Martin's epic fantasy series. It may well be that some of them would be up for helping out on a Medieval 2 version of the WoT mod once work on that is completed, although that's still some time off.

    yes I have read that series as well it lacks the depth of WOT by far so I wouldnt be surprised if they finished it pretty quickly since there isnt much to change from units on MTW2

    I would be up for it.Of course I would have to learn M2TW modding, at the moment I can only script for RTW.
