Thread: Two things that have been bugging me

Default Two things that have been bugging me

1.Can you control reinforcements? The AI always controls them no matter what I choose before the battle and its 'strategy' most of the time is to charge every unit it has right at the center of the enemy line.

2.How do you stop phalanxes from breaking formation in cities? The moment they put down those pikes they become completely useless.

    1) See this thread.

    2) Make sure their formation is no wider than the actual pavement of the street. This allows them to keep the same formation while moving.

Actually, and you would probably know the answer, Ludens, I have been wondering if pathfinding in cities works better on the Large setting compared to the Huge setting.

I have no idea, actually. I never play at large.

Pathfinding is the same oddball thing, but the cohesion of the units is way better as the unit gets smaller.

    1. Never had any problem with those as long as I made sure the AI control box was unchecked on the pre-battle info screen. There's the limit of 20 units, but when I withdraw a badly mauled unit, another unit that's been waiting on the sidelines becomes available (sometimes it takes a while).

    2. As suggested by bovi, play with smaller unit size. It's not a solution, but it's a good workaround.

While I have a comp that can handle the Huge armies - I've found the game works better on the Normal unit setting for a variety of reasons not the least of which is how, on Huge, the AI will recruit the smaller cities to 400 pop and keep them there. Huge would be fun if the population of the cities was also 4x but it sadly doesn't adjust.

EB gives the AI some population when a unit is recruited to avoid this problem. However, it also leads to endless stacks of enemies. A dilemma.
