Well, one could state this "über" feeling was used/fostered in a period in time which wasn´t all that "über" at all...in fact it was the worst period in German history. I think you know what I am talking about here...

First, calling me a sissy is an insult to me. I doubt that any of my direct opponents (in a football match) thought of me as a sissy. I wouldn't dare presume that your age and the hormones that come with it has anything to do with your statement and the formulation of said statement.

Secondly, I'm no football hater and I love watching both very much on TV or live. I both practrice it, football on wednesday (indoor) and sunday and biking on sunday in the off-season. I like and dislike both sports for various reasons. Faking a foul isn't part of the game just as taking doping isn't part of cycling (before you start about that remember that there also is doping in football).

Thirdly, the skill required for both sports. True, technically and tactically football is much more complex than cycling but cycling isn't easy. Cyclist must do at least as much for their sport as football players do. I've never heard of a cyclist that partied all night and gave a good performance the next day. Football is part technical, cycling is all physical.

And last but not least, No sport is king of sports and no one is trying to something about it. No sport is superiour to the other, you just like a sport or you don't (as much). I don't mind you hating cycling, I was just answering a question you posed.

I can't agree with you here.I like cycling more than i like football but i think deutsch uber alles is right.Football is the king of sports because it is practiced by more people than any other sports.And its easy to play it anywhere ,you just need a ball.I agree with you:No sport is superior to the other.Only people can give a sport the title:,,King of sports" and more people like football than any other sport.All around the world football is called king of sports.

"Deutschland über alles" propagates an ideology, an aggressive nationalistic and expensionalist attitude, that Germany has left behind. "Deutschland über alles" is part of the forbidden first stanza of the German national anthem, we're only using the third stanza now. People who associate themselves with neonazis and/or extreme right wing parties are known to sing only the forbidden stanzas, though.

Well, about the Tour de France, it's something my grandfather used to watch during those neverending summer afternoons when I was a kid. I do know that the guys doing cylcing have the strongest hearts (I think Indurain was at 34 bpm when at rest -eeeew must be scary!). And I know how the team works means something. It just takes too long. So either I would be in some celebration around the race or looking at the highlights....

Pro cycling these days is rife with drugs, just like most sports. It's a sad truth but given the money flowing into sport, it was bound to happen. Even rugby is now tainted by it. In all sports, drugs become harder and harder to detect, partly because the antidoping agencies are mostly government owned, and are quite cash strapped and mostly being reactive to new drugs coming on the markets.

As for cycling, it is quite amazing when you look at the amount of "asthma" sufferers in the Tour de France...

My dad enjoys the Tour and usually buys the magazine and follows it but hes been working a lot lately and finds it hard to watch it. Maybe others would agree its not something you want to watch-miss-watch but more its something that you have to keep up with to enjoy to the full?

When he explained some of the rules, techniques and the goings-on I got interested in it but I wouldn't say I follow it. I think the drug scandals are very much ruining the reputation to the point were many followers are abandoning it. Imagine the kind of people who would enjoy it, they are not the kind to tolerate junkies.

My favourite sport to play and watch is football, although I don't play as much as I would like to anymore. I think it's sad that anyone might argue between cycling and football, 2 totally different sports. They cannot be compared.

Deutschland Uber Alles I don't think you should tell people to watch champions league as an advertisement of football. Many champions league games are boring because teams are scared to take chances, or because the big players bottle it, usually attacking players.. Ronaldinho for example. If you really want to advertise football at its most entertaining, you want to watch an English premier league game between (for example, at random) West Ham and Aston Villa. Those kind of games are fast paced with great goals and unpredictale and quite astonishing results. Champions league does have its games, and if your team (and if you love your football team half as much as I love mine you'll know what I mean) is playing then even the most boring and awful game can be the best, most exciting 90 mins of your life.

I only looked at the coverage when Lance was compiting know its a bunch of no names and to be honest WHERE IS THE HÉROISME in that sport but yeah I guess it's appealing to some viewers...
