erase spear attribute??

Hey guys

so I remeber reading a thread about erasing the "spear" attribute from certain unit description files because it interfered with them using their secondary weapon or something like that.
Now I can't find the thread and I was wondering if any one would be interested in taking a little time to explain that whole dealeo to me as I think I might want to change a few unit descriptions so they work properly. If someone could show before and after screen shots of the file that would be super pimp.
I'm concerned because in my Mak campaign the generals body guard only uses their spears they don't switch to their kopis blades after the charge.
What are some other units that you know of that should have the spear attribute deleted?

The spear issue is ONLY with non-phalanx infantry units. And its because it gives a lesser attack when fighting other infantry, and it was given to a lot of units by mistake. How to do it???? I don't know.... I am as lost as u

now.... for your cavalry. Press "ALT+Right Click" after the charge and they will swith to swords. OR u can press "ALT+Righ Click" before the charge and they will charge with spears and then switch immidiatly after.

Open export_descr_units.txt -> search for anything called spear in a line beginning with "stat_pri_attr" or "stat_sec_attr" -> erase the spear thingy. (This may not be save game compatible; generally speaking minor changes in EDU are, major ones are not. Dunno what category this one would be, but I'd not be surprised if the latter applies.)

Do this only with non-phalanx units, though. IIRC the phalanx ability requires the spear-attribute.

Isn't the long_pike attribute the one that defines the phalanx formation?

IIRC: nope, that one defines whether the pikes are sarissa style, or shorter, Iphikratides style. (The old Vanilla difference between Mak Pikemen and City state Hoplite.)
