I'm postively sure that Makedonia can recruit Cretans with their factional MIC.

Does anyone know when the macedonian reformed phalanx is available? What MIC level do you need?

This requires the old Marian reforms trigger, wich happens when a city in Italy besides Rome reaches huge city level. In one of my Mak campaigns it happened between 240-230 IIRC. If you don't want to wait that long, you can take Taras from the Epeirotes and build it up yourself.

I've played with them a bit, they're a bit better then standard Pezhetairoi but cost only marginally more. They have +1 armour and +1 for their sword attack. They seem to be available pretty much everywhere (same as P. Deuteroi?)

The weird thing is that I was still able to recruit the old Pezhetairoi and silver shields afterwards.

AFAIK: all Vanilla reforms based units are an add on to your regular unit roster....
