Ambakaro versus caetrati

Ambrakaro, although being the Lusotana elite, have less defence skill than caetrati and have comparative low stats in the world of elites.

Well, they are supposed to be medium infantry, and you have been misled by the name of the Ambakaro. The real Lusotana elites are the Dosidataskeli, and those are among the meanest, leanest and heaviest of the elites.

The Ambraco are pretty much elites on their own... Use them to flank. they are best at hand to hand combat as their morale is as high as it gets and their 12 attack armor piercing swords can make a big mess out of units who seem better statwise.

The EB website is your friend. Basically, they are the infantry form of tanks.

and really nasty they are too. Hmm, I didn't know Ambakaro had AP swords. Must be because I'm facing them with milites, scutari and caetrati. Alright, that makes Ambakaro giant-killers. They're ordinary against ordinary troops, but against heavy ones they will rock.
