I'd love a WWII shooter if it was, yanno, GOOD. Too many Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games have saturated the market with endless hordes of Germans in France/Stalingrad. If someone made a WWII mod for Operation Flashpoint, I would totally snap that up.

Well, there was the Invasion 1944 mod, but I don't think they actually finished it... this is all I found:

Maybe some of the people still playing OFP know some more about this?

Did you ever play Hidden and Dangerous? I think you'd like that one... you can give it a try here:

It's a bit old but it is still a great game! And very different from the standard WWII (and) FPS games.

    m04r l33t 5k1lz!

Seriously, I'd love to see a pessimistic, dark late-ish (Russian campaign?) German-side FPS rather than the great American heroes portrayed in all of them.

World War 2 has been sufficiently utilized as basis for games. Unless a refreshing product spawns from game developers' and publishers' hands in this particular area, the WWII theme is to be marooned by the games industry.

To address the question of what I would like to see in a WWII FPS, I have stated it is to be refreshing. Simple elobaration: the less covered areas of WWII in games, Russia, playing as Germans in campaign, "freeplay-like" single-player activity, the conquest of a European strategy map with appropriate descriptive colours and different possible outcomes and according storyline, etc., etc.

A good WWI shooter would be splendid and would... differ much from a WWII one I guess. At the moment my cogitation dictates it would minimially consist of static activity regarding many artillery bombardments, heavily fortified defences, static crossfiring MGs, many trenches, technology leap from single-shot rifles to submachine guns for effective close trench combat, gas, gas masks, bayonets, barbed wire, no man's land, etc.

Oh yes, a WWI game could serve excellence indeed.

    Have you played Red Orchestra?

As far as what Id like to see.... Red Orchestra with the newest graphics. The game itself is all that could be asked for in an FPS.

I would like to see a war other than WWII. Its to banal and the developers need to diversify their wars used

Winter War would really be where its at. Lone Finnish Squad Hiding in the Snowy Forests. Suddenly Artillery starts pounding down in every direction, and Hordes of Soviet Soldiers Charge from over the Hill. When it seems like all is lost, A Soldier Pops up from beneath a Snow Covered Net, Laying Down Heavy Machine Gun Fire, Then Five Or Six More Squads appear around you, all apparently hiding in ambush as well. You hear the Orders to Retreat and Regroup. Soviet Soldiers hot on your tail, Bullets whizzing past your ears. Grenades, more Artillery Fire. One Hundred Meters in Front of you, a low lying bunker system. The Mannerheim Wall. You Dive into relative Safety. The Soviets Run into the effective Bunker System, Attempting to Break Through. But the effort is all for naught, they seem to be like a Horde of Flies hitting a Window. The Battle is over...for now.

Hidden and Dangerous sucks more than Richard Simmons at a gay pride rally.
I hop down 6 inches off a curb and die. Apparently, there's no difference between 6 inches and 6 feet in the game. A fall is a fall.

Have you tried the second part? Uses the mafia engine and was a fine game IMO, the first was really hard. And jumping around is not really part of the gameplay as I understand it.

How about a what-if one where the UK is under occupation and(obviously) doing a little bit of resistance while Japan has taken Alaska, Midway, and the Hawaiian islands in 1942 and have taken Darwin Australia, while landing above and below the Bay Area in California and also San Diego. I think that would be cool. Also, Russia is still alive and has put its efforts into pushing Japan outta China and Manchuria. O yea and the Philippines haven't fallen and are holding out, just barely.

Hows that for a quick WWII fps scenario?

All us men suffer in equal parts, it's our lot in life, and no man goes without a broken heart or a lost love. Like holding your dog as he takes his last breath and dies in your arms, it's a rite of passage. Unavoidable. And honestly, I can't imagine life without that depth of feeling.-Bierut
