to give saladin daimyo status go to battle\batinit\historical battles\jaffa\saladin and then change the unit with saladin in it where it says genralisdaimyo: false to true

A glorious victory, but I didn't actually fight it. What happen was as I just finished reorganize my troops, my boss walked in and I had to turn off the monitor (forgot to pause). When I turn the monitor back on about an hour later, I see the victorious battle summary screen. Kill over 600. Taken around 300 including the leader. Lost less than 200.

Had to do the battle again. Won by capturing the enemy leader, so didn't have the high kill ratio.

pdoan8, I think that shows just how easy this battle is and how strong the English units are against Saladin's.

Also pays tribute to the AI being able to micromanage a human's troops better in MTW than it did in STW.

    I killed a little over 900 I think?
Took a little under 200 prisoners.
    Only took 134 casualties.

    First Try.

All I did Was form up in a tight box against the castle walls like so: \===/

Then they came on. My stupid archers blew all their ammunition before I even noticed they were low, leaving only the 1 xbow unit to carry my ranged attack.

The first charge pulled down my general (I thought I set him to hold position! grrr) so I sent all my melee units in to bust him out of the sea of camels he had dived into. I managed to flank the mass and attack the general's unit from the side. Saladin routed about 20 sec before 120 mamelukes flanked me on my now defenseless right. I was able to reposition my units to attack the mamelukes, who routed in a few seconds, then I huffed it back into my original defensive positions.

Now the waiting game began. The bastards formed up again and just sat there, with their cav archers plinking away. I moved my Xbowmen up far enough in front of my lines to target saladin's camel unit. One of the Xbowmen sniped saladin just before they ran out of ammo!

With saladin dead, the enemy refused to attack, so I formed up in a long thin line 2-3 ranks deep with my melee units and just marched forward. I used my archers to help out in the flanks where a few enemy units refused to rout on contact, but along the length of the line, the enemy routed immediately after engaging my units. I marched them right off the map.

    GAH!

I won Jaffa once with a sweet tactic.

No... it wasn't the wedgies! Those tend to take some losses.

This time, I used a different move. I cornered my men in both back corners of my castle and left the middle wide open. I left old man Richie in the middle all alone. The enemy pigdogs raced in for what looked like an easy kill. But lo and behold, once they cross swords with the King, the corner forces swept in behind them and cut ALL their heads off!

Thats right! I KILLED EVERY SINGLE MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD THEY SENT! ZERO enemy survived.

And the ONLY losses I took were:
2 Royal Knights killed in action
5 Other troops killed by "friendly fire" from my archers.

Thats it! Killed 'em ALL, lost only 7.

    GAH!

My god! Sounds to me like you recreated the battle of Cannae nicely . After about the 10th time of beating Jaffa with the same old tactics I decided not to wait for the enemy and just put everyone in a wedge, marched foot first, and met them right on the ridge where the enemy starts at! I actually won with ease killed something like 825 and took 50 and lost 200, not bad for a reckless charge . Only real tactic I actually tried was using Richard to attack a few flanks, the rest was just a dumb move that would have gotten me killed if I was facing the real AI, but it did look cool watching every man furiously charge the enemy. What I did is certainly testament to how easy the battle is.

The first time i saw Saladins army walking over the sand dunes i almost wet myself, but when i engaged it in combat i realised it was actually pretty feeble, Saladin fell quite early in the fighting and the rest of the army just ran or made short lived stands only to run the minute their casualties went into double figures :\

I completed it first time and im a pretty poor general, i couldnt believe how easy they made it for you to win, has anyone here actually lost that battle?
