Powerpoint assistance needed

Requesting help from all the powerpoint gurus out there

I'm looking to have a menu appear 'pop out' of the side of a slide on mouseover, thus giving me more space for actual content in this menu-driven presentation.

I understand how to do this through use of a hyperlinked, mouse-over action taking you to another (identical but for the menu) slide, and likewise how to return once that is done.

However, I'm finding that an extremely inelegant method of working with the presentation, as it requires a duplicate of every slide to be made and updated.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to have a slide 'switch masters' on mouseover (and switch back once the mouse is moved away), thus changing the design of the slide (including the master-driven animations) but keeping the content intact.

Does anyone have the faintest idea if this is possible; or if not, if there's a way to achieve what I'm trying to do easily and efficiently?

That's ideally the way I'd like to do it; but I haven't yet found a way to trigger a set of animations on mouse-over (the options it gives are rather limited)

Here's a case file I found from searching microsoft.public.powerpoint. I'm not a Powerpoint guru, so I don't know if this will answer your question, but you can search for yourself on Google groups if you need more - I used all the keywords "mouse over" in the group microsoft.public.powerpoint.

I want to create an interactive menu in a presentation. I

text. But i want to add animation as well.

I previously created a simple flash element that would
animate on mouse-over. I imported this into the
presentation and it works great - when I move the mouse
over the graphic, it starts animating. But, powerpoint
will not allow me to set a link to this element. So
basically I can create some cool buttons that come to life
when you move the mouse over them, but do nothing when you
click on them.

I also tried importing an animated Gif file and the same
restriction seems to hold - no links allowed.

I am using powerpoint-2002 (office-XP). Any suggestions?

So basically you want to assign two Action Settings to the same object,
right? The problem that I see is that in your case the Mouse Click and
Mouse Over are sort of mutually exclusive, because you can't click the mouse
unless you "put it over", if you get my drift. So the Mouse Over action
always prevails. (Don't get me wrong though. There are valid combinations
of the two actions, like highlight or play sound on M/O and link on M/C.)

I think that what I would do is to put an invisible rectangle near the
object and assign the Mouse Click/Link to it. Now you can click on it to
activate the link and you won't trigger the Mouse Over action on the button.
You could also make this invisible rectangle larger than the button and
place it under the button. Now a clicking anywhere on the "margin" around
the button will activate the Mouse Click Link. You just have to be careful
not to move the mouse over the button. Does that make sense?
