Default Router is made of fail

Our wireless D-link router is recently being quite a pain in the behind. I'll be on the PC happily working away when suddenly i get signed out of MSN and Xfire and can't access any web pages. All the status icons for the internet connection show that there is nothing wrong, and the only way i can bring back any connectivity is by switching off the router for 20 seconds then turning it back on. This is very frustrating and happens at least once everyday, sometimes 4 times a day, and it's only a matter of time before it happens while i'm on a game, which will most definitely annoy me.

    Any help?

Check the MTU size for the router, lowering it may help. Your ISP will be able to tell you the best size to use. Are you using PPPoA encapsulation or PPPoE? Try switching from one to the other and see if that improves things. Could it be your ISP that is to blame? I have a similar problem to yours and have found this to be the case - in particular my ISP's DNS servers. You could try using OpenDNS instead of that provided by your ISP.

As to the firmware upgrade, avoid it unless you can get proof that it will fix it before hand. If the release notes for the new firmware, and any of the releases between your current version and the new version, point to it fixing the problem then it may be worth a try.

Hmm, it could be the ISP, because occassionally i do find there is no connectivity and the trouble lies with the DNS.

I'll check all of these things and report back with my findings.
