After re-installing to solve a patch problem I realised I no longer have my CD-key. luckily the game accepts any key of the right length for offline play, but I want to start laying online again. Is there anyway to retrieve it from Sega?

i believe it should be in a folder in the reg edit, but not sure which.

Soo...
Umm..okay...I just used RegEdit to re-enter my CD key...well...I had the last 4 characters incorrect ...Ooops.
Just to clear up what Steve said (For Windows):
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type in RegEdit
- Within RegEdit:
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SOFTWARE
* Sega
* Medieval II Total War
* Double click and edit the "CDKey" entry.
Good luck!

Aye, as he said, he gave a "false" CD-key as he installed the game, and now he can't play MP. Looking in the register has no use as he will only find the "fake" key.
Best you can do is mail Sega, tell them you lost the key and loads of that stuff. Also be sure to send some confirmation that you bought the game legally.
Since I bought it from Thailand, that could be a problem... I don't exactly have a receipt.Originally Posted by Stig
Nah, on the DVD's there are numbers xxxx-xxxx-xxxx or something, most of the time they will do.
Look on the back of the manual. You should see a code consisting of four blocks of number/letter separated by dashes (-) something like this....Originally Posted by Talon1579
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (numbers and letters not given for obvious reasons)
Enter them exactly as they are printed. I hope they are in the english version.

Hello Masamune,Originally Posted by Masamune
I reinstalled the system and windows lost the CD-key, can't retype them in the application.
You can easily fix, without reinstall the whole thing again, by above steps.
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type in RegEdit
- Within RegEdit:
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SOFTWARE
* Sega
* Medieval II Total War
Go to the right hand window of regedit (inside the Medieval II Total War folder) and right click, select new, select String value. Name the new entry CDKey.
* Double click and edit the "CDKey" entry.
This fixed it for me, thank you for sharing.

I also lost my CD key. I'm on a totally different PC now so regedit is out of the question. I have the manual but if I recall correctly, the CD key was on a seperate card and not on the manual...which is partly why I lost it. The back of the manual is an add for Total War: Eras.
I do have the case, the discs, the manual, the cardboard thing that goes over the case...so how exactly would I go about convincing Sega I didn't just dl the game and am begging for a key?

Hello Graphic,
Do you still have the old HD and the OS install there?

Yes I do. My brother's using it since I got this new pc (that annihilates M2TW on max I might add )
Hello Graphic,
Perhaps the data is still in that registry, can you check? Use pen and paper to copy the numbers.

Unfortunately not. I distinctly remember because I thought to myself right after I uninstalled it (also due to the patch problem *shakes fist*) "hmm, do I still have my cdkey?" I thought it was on this green card but I think I got that mixed up with Stronghold 2. Anyways I checked the registry and it was gone. TY anyway though.
Luckily I have a friend in the Call of Duty 2 clan I'm in who also plays the TW series, hopefully I can finaggle his key to play online.
It's good to be of use--my pleasure, though that information was posted at the .com and I just copied it over here.Originally Posted by TosaInu
