    Default Help? - Less-Generic Mercenaries

    I figured if i wanted to start modding this would be a good place to start.

    as it stands i'm just a bit overwhelmed by all the information...

    In short in sum; I first want to ask if its even possible -
    then I will no doubt end up digging thru endless lists -
    so lets see if its feasible or has been done already.

    In short; i would like to 'excuse' the mercenary crossbowmen; m spearmen; etc...

    The GENERIC mercenaries -
    and replace them with Regional troops -

    which the engine does Sometimes... i want it to do it all the time.

    do i edit this in the region files?

    descr_mercenaries.txt

    in my case;
    E:\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_mercenaries.txt

    in M2 you can do heck of a lot with it, to give you an example I did the opposite of what you want, make the pools very basic and the same in each region but with units specific to each religion.

    this is a basic pool;

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    unit Tlaxcalan Mercenaries exp 0 cost 600 replenish 0.16 - 0.36 max 12 initial 4
    unit Native Mercenaries exp 0 cost 500 replenish 0.16 - 0.36 max 12 initial 4

    unit merc cog, exp 0 cost 920 replenish 0.10 - 0.30 max 3 initial 1
    unit merc cog, exp 1 cost 250 replenish 0.36 - 1.00 max 2 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
    unit merc cog, exp 1 cost 250 replenish 0.36 - 1.00 max 2 initial 1 religions { islam } crusading
    unit Crusader Knights exp 1 cost 400 replenish 0.10 - 0.20 max 2 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
    unit Crusader Sergeants exp 1 cost 250 replenish 0.20 - 0.40 max 4 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
    unit Religious Fanatics exp 1 cost 200 replenish 0.25 - 0.50 max 5 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
    unit Great Cross exp 1 cost 380 replenish 0.05 - 0.15 max 1 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
    unit Dismounted Crusader Knights exp 1 cost 340 replenish 0.15 - 0.30 max 3 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
    unit Ghazis exp 1 cost 240 replenish 0.15 - 0.30 max 3 initial 1 religions { islam } crusading
    unit Mutatawwi'a exp 1 cost 160 replenish 0.30 - 0.60 max 6 initial 1 religions { islam } crusading
    unit Bedouin Cavalry exp 1 cost 200 replenish 0.10 - 0.30 max 2 initial 1 religions { islam } crusading
    unit Turkomans Mercs exp 1 cost 250 replenish 0.20 - 0.40 max 4 initial 1 religions { islam } crusading
    unit Afghan Javelinmen Mercs exp 1 cost 320 replenish 0.25 - 0.50 max 5 initial 1 religions { islam } crusading
    unit Mercenary Pavise Crossbowmen exp 0 cost 850 replenish 0.10 - 0.25 max 3 initial 0 religions { catholic orthodox }
    unit Turkopoles exp 1 cost 720 replenish 0.20 - 0.40 max 4 initial 1 religions { catholic orthodox }
    unit Landschneckt Pikemen exp 1 cost 520 replenish 0.15 - 0.30 max 3 initial 0 religions { catholic orthodox }
    unit Elephants Mercs exp 1 cost 3000 replenish 0.06 - 0.10 max 1 initial 0 events { gunpowder_discovered }
    unit Elephant Artillery Mercs exp 1 cost 3500 replenish 0.04 - 0.06 max 1 initial 0 events { gunpowder_discovered }
    unit Slav Mercenaries exp 0 cost 460 replenish 0.08 - 0.25 max 8 initial 2 religions { islam }
    unit Mercenary Spearmen exp 0 cost 680 replenish 0.08 - 0.25 max 8 initial 2 religions { catholic }
    unit Slav Mercenaries exp 0 cost 460 replenish 0.08 - 0.25 max 8 initial 2 religions { catholic orthodox }

    but when you create a pool per region you can do just what you want, as you can define merc's by date/religion/crusading/event, wich imo only lacks "faction" ... :D

    Default Q: Help? - Less-Generic Mercenaries A: wet Feet!

    Thanks!

    and thanks; too to Alpaca; who said something rather similar pm.

    Its nice to get a good solid answer.. I know it can be frustrating with new folks springing up and asking the same Old Questions;
    but especially starting on a new sight; asking a question like that DROWNS you...

    Not looking to drown; just get my feet wet.

    For Now :)
