The recommended difficulty is VH (campaign) / M (battle). Stacks aplenty.

Yeah, you'll get plenty of stacks. Many more then you'll want.

Or play Pontos at E/E. Has the same result ...
Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:

"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"

VH/M, yes. You might want to play with a money script though.

Well, if you're on some crazed "alexander-like" quest I do not recommend VH. Given enough time some factions just get very tedious to fight, i.e AS or the Romans. You can't just go in and take a portion of their empire and and turn your focus elsewhere. They will send swarms of stacks your way 'til you just get sick of it and steamroll them.
Sure it can get tough sometimes, and even outright hard. But imo the medium setting allow for far better and more strategic gameplay.

Well, what i would like to see are larger stacks.
At least when you got your economy going, i miss the really huge 3000 vs. 3000 battles. i tried a few things out so far, like running it on bi and using ai balancing minimod. Not really satisfactory, yet. i had some gorgeous battles, but few. any suggestions?

Play Pontus VH/M. The AS will send plenty full stacks at you. play the Romans VH/M. The Sweboz will send stack after stack.

Actually i don't think eb is to blame, its an old problem.
Anyway, there are ai enhancement tweaks for m2, Darthsomething. The ai sends full stacks all the time (ok maybe not a good choice for eb's beginning stadium).

i also guess the ai is sporting smaller stacks when running on bi. Hm, just sorry for the spear walls.

IF you use rules and take your time. BUT if you rush and play with no rules, then VH/M will be too easy! VH/H is a little more chalenging.

    How you get that?
    Q. Will the stacks increase ? I love large battles at least 10,000 troops on the field with the a1. Gives a feel of real war.

    thanks

Here is the link for the Rebalancing mod:https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=87649

Just download the file and follow the installation instructions and you'll be fine.
