    Default Eve Online

Anyone play it? I'm 4 days into a trial account, and I'm thinking of subscribing. Seems like a giggle, though I haven't really got into the PvP though, just seen a friend get demolished whilst I scarpered for the nearest station. Building up my strength at the moment, cruising for NPCs.

    In-game name is Xin March.

I tried it for a while, but as with all MMOs, the time commitment bothered me. I had some fun mining with a small corp, but the kinds of hours they said they were putting in freaked me out.

I gots work, I gots kids, I gots dogs and a wife, not necessarily in that order. I need my games to be on-demand, and I need to be able to turn them off at a moment's notice without inconveniencing anyone. So I just kinda have to give up on all MMOs until they design one specifically for working stiffs.

Loved it, want to play again.

But I am too time poor, like Lemur I need to play on demand not be demanded to play.

Yeah... I may only be a student, but I see what you mean. At least, unlike most, this one still allows you to progress whilst offline. I favour bumming around in a frigate - quite low intensity stuff, and it means I can carry on with my life otherwise. Still, it's always nice to have a mother corp to cry to when my ship's hull gets evaporated...

Have played for a while off and on (currently off and character unsubscribed). First played it from nostalgic memories of playing Elite on a BBC model B way back when and it can be quite fun. NPC stuff can get very repetitive and Eve has basically replaced skill grind in other MMO's for a money (isk) grind.

PvP has more severe consequences than most games and this seems to be where its at for most people. As Lemur said the amount of time some peeps put into it is staggering and the big alliance warfare that seems to require too much commitment is probably worth a miss. I think the best bet for fun is probably small gang PvP, so trying to find a corp that does that will stand you in good stead. Eve University is also a good option for starting out and they should teach you the basics.

Avoid the forums for the most part (especially the Corps Alliance Discussion) where there are an exceptionally high proportion of idiots who get too worked up over a game. Another good place to look for info is here particularly their ship setup info.

Enjoy and now you've got me thinking of resubbing - maybe once the Summer is over and being indoors again is OK.
I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information - Calvin -

Damn, don't get me started on this. Highly addicitive, and i'd be subscribed and playing all the time if i wasn't so poor.

Been playing it for two months now and I certainly prefer it over LOTRO that I quit after 5 weeks (which was my first MMO)

    currywurry:

You can actually play for free if you want. You can buy Game Time Cards from other players. 30/90 day cards are selling for around 180/380m ISK. That is certainly possible if you have lots of time to play. Level 4 missions will on average give you around 10-15m/hour or so. Mining with a hulk in high sec systems (very safe) will give you about 6-10m/hour depending on what you mine. Take the chance and go into 0.0 space and you might do 50-60m/hour or more I think.

I have never played any game of its genre. The time to utilize for it would be immensely great. It would probably be very addicting. That is if I would be vulnerable to it... it is probably not my genre. And every game has its fools (especially online). By that I mean there are people who play games who have no concept of what is appropriate and what is not... silly people, silly annoying teens, kids, etc. who for instance communicate in the following kinds of ways:

    "OMG!!!oneone!11! you suk!!!!"
    "dsah;hda;fda u noob!@@!one22two!!"

Actually, EVE is probably the only MMO without idiot noob kids, on account of the fact that the absurd training times and difficulty in making lots of money when you first start drives them away, as they have no patience. That is why i love it so.

I see. If that is true, then I retract the second point of my previous statement.

Presence of such people in-game can be annoying: I noticed on the WiC beta how some people acted foolishly; or when I used to play Far Cry MP there were many people (probably kids too) who simply behaved in unacceptable ways and show that there are gamers who are really stupid; people who deliberately insult others instead of helping them, etc.

Overall I would say that it's a good game, not a great one but not bad either.
My main problem is that it's quite boring and lonely I guess you can say.

I have seen the screenies from this game and it looks amazing.
But MMO's are not for a family father... I hope there are games like these when I retire.

The only MMO I have ever played was Star Wars: Galaxies. And I guess it is as with other games, time consuming to say the least. I loved it though, the 14 day trial and the one month I suscribed. I even got my first Light saber before I had to let it go.
I didn't see any of the trolls there, but only found people that were considerate and helpful.

Considering by the absurd amount of advertising i've seen for it (trust me, you'll have seen it at least once on the net) they are doing very well, and will probably keep on going until your kids have left home, and by that time they'll probably be using a whole new graphics engine and looking shinier than ever while running on DirectX 13

    Oh how i can dream.
