I think the key is in his descriptor "shooting fish in a barrell".

I'm guessing that he faced an army predominantly composed of infantry with few archers (or even none), who were viciously bombarded by his artillery as they trudged through some kind of pass or ravine. Those who didn't rout were further encouraged to do so by his Steppe Heavies (who possess long range in XL), and the chiv sargeants barely had to work at all.

    Nice one.

I think that the AI force was a good mix of Livonian rebels. It wasn't XL though, vanilla MTW/VI on expert. The terrain was flat so the artillery was very effective. Just take the gunners off skirmish so that they don't run away. I think that the numbers were about equal. This is my usual defender army. It never fails. By the time the rebels got to my line they were on low morale. The SHC took the fight out of them and then chased them down. I've also been successful using eight serpentine or culverin in the attack. Artillery are way better than arbs. I'm just a humble 14th century Napoleon.

The best I have ever been able to achieve was when I played as the Byzantines(XL). I was fighting a bridge battle against the Hungarians, in I think Bulgaria. I had 4 Psiloi, 4 BI, 4 Bombards, and a God-Prince (His father was occupied teaching the Turkish on who Allah really was... ). The huns though invaded with well over 2000 men, mostly spearmen of decent quality, along with a French crusade (I don't remeber the number of men). The battle lasted forever, and I nearly lost (In fact, I should have lost, but the French simply left the Hungarians after the death of a single unit of Templar, but the Huns promptly retreated after the betrayal). I had only around 400 men left, but the Hungarians and French suffered massive casualties: 1300 Huns and 70 Frenchmen died.

I got curious when reading this thread, and so i opened my logfiles to see if i had anything like that happen to me. And i did find one battle, which i played back in june that propably is worth mentioning: I was playing as the Swedish, and i attacked Scotland which was held by the Almohads. They retreated to their fort, but next year brought a large army with over 4200 men to lift the siege. My army was pretty teched up, second level weapons and third level armor with nearly all units, but i only had a two star general. I deployed my army consisting of halberdies, some CMAA, huscarles and arbalesters on a steep slope. My arbs poured arrows down to the enemy ranks and when their units finally managed to get up the slope, my halberdies and other infatry chewed them to pieces. they brought in about 3-4 wawes of units, and i managed to rout them all, and when the time ran out they hadn't still stopped bringing more units to the slaughter. (a pity i had the time limit on, numbers would be much higher if it was off) In the end i killed 2271 men and lost 212. (one unit of halberdies killed 315 men and lost 22 )
