Thread: Question about the 1.2 patch

Default Question about the 1.2 patch

your locked thread says if it takes less than 15 minutes to apply it didn't install correctly. i'm just wanting to make sure that isn't a bit of an exaggeration or not. here's what mine did:

    the self extracting archive opened
    then the Install Shield opened
    the .Net Framework was updated
then i was prompted to restart

the whole process took about 10-12 minutes. so obviously i don't want to uninstall and reinstall and then patch again if it's not absolutely necessary. i haven't actually loaded the game up yet, and i don't what to look for as proof of an issue because there's nothing listed in that locked thread about issues people were reporting. and, quite frankly, i don't feel like searching for it either.

so run the game , go for options and see if you have 1.2 in top-right corner. It weird for me that so many persons had problems with patching/installing/uninstalling tw games.

If it does, you should be right - try running a siege battle in campaign and see if that works without issues.

well fortunately, since i am a moron, the game solved the puzzle for me by continuously CTDing during the loading screen. after the clean install everything worked fine.

nice to see Citadel battles are slow as ever for minimum spec video cards. i don't guess that will ever be fixed...

I had problems too. even with a perfectly clean install.

So,,, after trawling the net for some cryptic solutions and then discovering Sapi's guide here anyway :O https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=84698

I came up with a good fast guide myself due to getting confused about patches also because there are a few apparently:

    1. Defrag your drive prior to installing the game.
    2. Install the game ( Do Not Modify anything! text files whatever!)
    3. Defrag your drive again.
    4. Install patch version 1.02 ( You Do Not need to install 1.1 first... Hey, it took me close to an hour to find this out) Also, the executable one works for sure. Some people reported problems with the zipped version.

The patch should take at least 14 mins + to install unless you have a serious cpu or something.

    My method for defragging:
To defrag close all applications that are running, disconnect from net (Just pull the plug), exit all progs in task bar, then; Control panel>Performance and Maintenance>ReArrange Items on Your Hard Disk...

I know some would find this pointless to post but if it can save a new player hours of trawling the net then why not.

Defrag is start > run > cmd > defrag -c if you wish to do so quickly

Other than that, it sounds pretty much like what's in the sticky (which needs a content/formatting update at some stage, yes)
