Thread: How to load new strat_map models

Default How to load new strat_map models

I am at my wits end on this problem and I have run out of answers so I turn to my betters.

I can not get any of the new CAS models we have created for our mod to load onto the Strat map. I have tested changing nearly every vanilla in the model_unit and model_strat folders with the skins we have created and they load fine. Including loading animals with barbarian skins. But as soon as we add one of our models it CTD's.

We have tried at least 5 different models and no luck. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong and also be willing to help me along the way so I don't end up throwing my computer out the window?

    Thank you

Are you using the correct skeletons? Battle model skeletons do not work in strat map.

As far as I know there is a generic skeleton that is assigned to the strat map models. I have never changed the skeleton assignment though. As I said, I am able to take any vanilla model from models_unit or models_strat folders and they will load fine. But none of the models we created for the mod will load at all.

Can this be a problem with different versions of Studio Max?

I had the same problem, and I had to use simplified models for strat map.

I don't remember exactly what I did , but there must be some limit in the number of elements, or some others such as cloaks may be forbidden.

My advice is: try to eliminate or at least group some of the elements of the model.

You can use many different textures, units for the strat map, but you have to use the skeleton's in the file. Also, I have found in doing this for Roma Surrectum that quite often the .cas files and textures are very picky about where they are. Sometimes it has to be 'models_unit' and 'models_unit\textures'...others will work where the strat models are normally locationed. You just have to experiment until you get it to work.

I've used normal 'general' textures as the strat Characters, so I know this will work.
"...then came the ensigns encompassing the Eagle, which is at the head of every Roman Legion; the King, and the strongest of all birds, which seems to them a signal of dominion, and an omen that they shall conquer all against whom they march....." Flavius Josephus

Sorry, haven't checked the posts in a while.

Thanks for your replies Monkwarrior and DVK901, I still haven't gotten the models to load but I admit I have not experimented in placing them in different folder combinations as was suggested. I'll experiment some more before returning here to cry if it doesn't work.
