Thread: Annoying traits

    Default Annoying traits

Every time I fight a battle, no matter what I seem to do, my general always ends up with the "winning first" trait, which is annoying when I am trying to make said general chivalrous. What exactly does one have to do to gain this trait?

On a related note, I realize that waiting outside of castles leads to the 'Questions Technology" trait, but one of my generals got it after waiting one turn for a ram! How can I avoid this?

To get battlechivalry instead of battledread (winning first) you should enter the battle with pretty even odds, then you should win it, without causing more then like 40% casualties or some such to the enemy. Im not too sure on the specifics, but i always seem to get good one if i rout the enemy as fast as possible.

You get the questions technology trait from sieging a long time, but its easily avoidable if you have a big enough force and build LOTS of siege equipment (rams, ladders, towers. It doesn't matter which it seems, but that you are capable of building a lot of them each turn).

By building a lot of siege equipment, you'll get the "admires technology" trait, and effectively give your guys a chance to siege without building as many as fast if need be in the future.....

You get winning first by killing or capturing more than 80% of the enemy during a battle, a Chivalrous General does not take prisoners, he lets the enemy flee once they give up. You can't get the advantages of being chivalrous and the advantage of mercilessly destroying the entire enemy army at the same time.

Also fighting a battle with odds greater than 2:1 in your favor gives you winning first (or maybe some other dread one)

Questions technology comes if you have build points available and have built less than 3 siege engines before the siege is over. The key point is build 3 siege engines of any type even if you don't use them, you also won't be penalized if they are not finished when you assault, eg you have 120 build points, queue up three rams, attack after one turn when only two are finished : No penalty

    More annoying traits:
Ignorant. My generals seem to get this pretty randomly. A master of spies, intelligent king being totally ignorant? blah.

Extravagance. Once you get your economy rolling your generals start getting traits like this. When the governor gets really extravagant it's cheaper to build when he isn't in the city. It's not a big problem when you are rolling in cash but it isn't nice either. Especially if you like to keep your generals clean of bad traits...

I have another question: how to get the "Noble in Rule" and "Mean ruler" traits?

I usually get noble in rule by occupying settlements, and it goes up itself keeping taxes normal (I think high keeps it even) and keeping people happy and building churches.

Noble in Rule I believe is the StrategyChivalry trait -- the easiest way to keep bumping this up is occupying cities.

Some decent discussion of traits and their triggers over at www.noctalis.com under M2:TW.
