Thread: Console choice

    Default Console choice

    Hi,

My girlfriend and I have decided to buy a console, an old one through a paper that sells old and used items. Now the question is, what console to focus on? I've never had any experience with a console before, except in the old days with NES and SNES. Right now I'm thinking Xbox (not 360), since it has a capacity to store games on the internal HDD and it has got good reviews in various guides I've read through. Also it is new than the PS2 which seems to be the main competitor.

Ultimately, it depends on games. So that is why I ask here; in the arena. What console offers the best games?

    Thanks

Playstation 2, cheap, loads of games, greatlooking machine, silent. Don't get old xbox, it has been abandoned. PS2 still gets games and will continue to get them for a while.

edit, would also take it over the 360 and PS3

As much as I dislike the PS2, I must concur: it would be a splendid choice.

Also check your local console game store--they have factory refurb PS2 units that are that are really cheap plus they come with a limited warranty.

You're not going to get that from an individual, so be careful.

Also, there are two models of the PS2. The older models have a mechanical slide out CD tray and are a couple of inches thick. The newer models are much thinner and only have a flip up lid to cover the CD tray. I have the newer model and it has given me no problems for two years now, but then I don't use it that much since I am not a huge console gamer. Still there are a ton of PS 2 games available for half price or less and like Fragony said, they are still releasing them.

Probably one of the reasons that the selection of games for the PS 3 is still so poor.

I'd advise Prince of Persia for a single player game. First one is a classic, second one was a bit dissapointing, and the third redeemed the second and more. Not that the second is bad, it just lacked the atmosphere and charm of the other two. Plus, at this point they're pretty cheap.

Well, it will mostly be games designed for more than one player action, such as the typical fighter game or racing game. Also, I tried Splinter Cell in coop mode, which was awesome. Please refer to the thread Favourite Game to see my preferances. However, the good SP games I will still play on PC though. But any game you find fun and exciting please recommend, I know you more or less like the same kind of game genres as I do.

    Thanks for helping out guys!

Even though they are not multiplayer oriented, Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 are excellent choices. (Of course I would recommend playing part 1 first if you haven't, or if you have a long time ago and are not in the MGS mood.)

Personally, I prefer the Sega Saturn. Three words: NiGHTS Into Dreams.

MGS3: Subsistence has a great multiplayer mode in it.
