    Default 10 Top Games

Id like to hear what other games and mods EB fans play.

Actually I only really cared about these two games the last years:

    1. RTW (Mods: EB, earlier AE and RTR)
    2. Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday (Mods: TRP, Stony Road, Mod 34)

    Additionally I liked to play:
    3. Baldurs Gate 2
    4. Europa Universalis 2 (with mods)
    5. Medieval (Mods: Pikes and Muscets)
    6. Strategic Command
    7. Anno 1701
    8. Football manager
    9. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 / 5
    10. North vs. South

    My biggest disappointments:
    1. Medieval 2
    2. Europa Universalis 3
    3. Neverwinter Nights 2
    4. Oblivion
    5. Crusader Kings

    I'm currently playing:
    - EB
    - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (with mods)
    - Europa Universalis III
    - Anno 1701

I love, but I'm not playing anymore:
    - TESIII: Morrowind (with expansions Tribunal and Bloodmoon, and mods)
    - Planescape: Torment
    - SW: KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic)
    - Fallout 2
    - Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)
    - Civilization 2

    My biggest disappointment:
    - TESIV: Oblivion (It has no TES feeling and no TES lore... I had tried to enjoy it, but found myself unable to do it, even with mods... Although one of its expansions, Shivering Isles, was very good)

Nowadays, it's hard to find good games... The only ones I'm awaiting for are:
    - Fallout 3
    - Assassin's Creed
    - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

Games I play regularly/are installed (in no particular order):

    1) RTW+EB (of course)
    2) Civilization IV+expansions (also Civ III on my laptop which can't handle IV)
    3) SMAC/X (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri)
    4) Rise of Nations
    5) GTA: San Andreas
    6) X3
    7) Oblivion
    8) XCOM Ufo Defense (on my PDA )

Classics (haven't played them in a while but I spent a LOT of time with them in the past - again no particular order):

    1) Sim City 2000
    2) System Shock
    3) Fallout I+II (CANNOT wait for III!)
    4) Baldur's Gate I+II
    5) Planescape: Torment
    6) Privateer
    7) Master of Orion II
    8) Star Wars TIE Fighter

    Greatest Disappointments:
    1) Master of Orion III (eh, what???)
I am sure there were others but this really stands out

    favorite games-
    1) EB (this counts as a separate game, right?)
    2) RTW & BI
    3) Halo 2 (do xbox games count?)
    4) ghost recon- advanced warfighter
    5) Age of Empires II
    7) Brothers in Arms (all 3 games)
    8) battlefield 2
    9) battlefield 2142
    10) World at War

    biggest disappointment-
    1) Age of Empires III
(i don't recommend buying it- a cannon can reach targets halfway across the map, and you can only make 200 units, and that includes villagers? and cannons cost 7 population! the worst part about it is that they show that musketeers line up and fire in rank, but that a big lie! never did that while i was playing it! the funny thing was, many AoE III fans were bashing RTW over at the AoE forums, and i came to its defense -i do check those forums every so often- some retard said you needed ridiculously high system specs to play it even mediocrely! how wrong is that?! i played RTW with the bare minimum req., and it played fine, barely any lag, but try to play AoE III with that same computer, its like seeing a slideshow! but seriously people, AoE III is a waste of money.)

My top games I've played in the last year or so:
    1) RTW (With EB. Before I joined EB, I played tons of mods: Aurthurian, RoP, RTR, Troy.)
    2) M2TW (I started playing to figure out the engine. It's kind of fun in a "I always win!" type of way.)
    3)Oblivion (gets boring quickly)
4)Half-Life 2 (still play it off and on)
5)Final Fantasy XII (man was it boring, never finished)
Those are the only ones I've played to any extent.

    Some old, good ones:
    The Baldur's Gates
    The KoTORs
Final Fantasy VII (when they peaked)
    Wolfenstien 3D

    1. Baldur's Gate II
    Best. Game. Ever.
    2. Fallout
I preferred it to the second, for some reason.
    3. Planescape: Torment
    4. KOTOR series.
    5. Medieval Total War
    6. Prince of Persia series (1&3 being much better than 2)
    7. Mount & Blade with The Last Days mod
    8. Shadow of the Colossus
    9. Warcraft III/Frozen Throne, if only for the beautiful campaign story, which is by far the best for any RTS I've owned. I really do suck at the game though.
    10. Age of Empires III

EB, of course, goes without saying.

On the whole Age Of... Series, I agree that 2 was great, but I've always preferred AOM:TT and AOE III, and can't really understand why people would prefer the second. The campaigns, I admit, were much better, but the game itself seems to have improved.

    3. NCAA Football 2006 (PS2)
    4. NCAA Basketball 2006 (PS2)
    4. M2TW (about 5 hours of it)

I bought Caesar III and played about 30 minutes with it and never touched it again.

    My top 10 games:

    0: Europa Barbarorum II
    1: Europa Barbarorum
    3: StarCraft
    .....What else is there??????
    Oh yes...
    4: Contra (Nintendo)
    5: Age Of Empires I

thats about it..... I am not sure about StarCraft II, I hope the story doesn't get too creasy and stupid when the game comes out.

Sigh...unfortunately that's true. They significantly "dumbed down" TES IV Oblivion to make it playable to mainstream gamers...and in the process really lost the best aspects present in TES III Morrowind.

    My Top 10:

    1. Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of time (N64)
    2. Total Annihilation (expansions Battle Tactics and Core Contingency)
    3. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (expansions Bloodmoon and Tribunal)
    4. Starcraft (expansions Brood War)
    5. Half Life 2 (mods, etc)
    6. Rome Total War (mods EB and RTR)
    7. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    8. Counterstrike: Source
    9. Day of Defeat: Source
    10. America's Army

    In no order of favor:

    - Civ & its spinoffs: Colonization, Master of Magic, diverse others
    - RR Tycoon 1 & 2
    - Might & Magic 6 & 7, to a lesser degree M&M8
    - Age of Wonders 1, 2 & Shadow Magic
    - Knights of Honour
    - Gothic 1
    - HOI 2 & DD, several mods: mod34, Byzantine mod, Kaiserreich
    - Medieval 1
    - Panzergeneral (all of them, actually), I love this ol' RTB strategic games
    - Tropico
    - NWN 1, especially the module: "The Aielund Saga" (it's amazing)
    - Morrowind
    - Imperium Galacticum 1
    - Master of Orion II (on vh, to get the AI races get the most bonuses ;-))
    - Heroes of M&M 3 & 4 (to a lesser degree: 1 & 2)
    - Capitalism 1 & 2
    - Fallout 1 & 2, even more Fallout Tactics
    - Planescape Torment
    - Temple of Elemental Evil (with the Co8 patch: it's how it should have been)

and now my all time favorites:
    - Icewind Dale 1 & 2 (2 even more than 1)

    and finally

    - BG 1 & 2 (with expansions)

God, what did I play BG 1 !!

P.S. Oh, I forgot RTW, with RTR or EB. And BI with IBFD. Silly me!

    P.P.S. I'm getting old: I forgot the SSI's AD&D RPGs for the Atari ST & Commodore C64. Also on C64: The Bard's Tale 1 to 3, Choplifter, Summer / Winter Games ...

Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:

"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"

    1. EB
    2. Civ III Conquests (so easy to mod)
    3. C&C: Generals
    4. Warcraft III
    5. Diablo II and expansion
    6. Soul Caliber III
    7. Freelancer
    8. Starcraft
    9. Any Zelda
    10. Any Final Fantasy (although VII was the best I've played)

I'm looking forward to Starcraft II and a few WWII first person shooters (Call of Duty 4 mainly).

Biggest disappointment for me has been LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth II. The graphics were great, and the units and abilities were pretty cool, but the campaign felt rushed, with such short uninspired cutscenes that I felt completely uninvolved. Games that are just rehashes of the millions of other RTS's need good storylines, otherwise there just command and conquer with wizards and dragons.

The last time I played it was within five months. Oh, and I probably should have included Fallout 1, Final Fantasy VII or IV and Star Wars: X-Wing to the list, maybe replacing Arcanum, Civ III and... I can't! Too hard to choose.
