Ok, with this map editor, does anyone know if you'll be able to place troops while making the map? If we have to go in and put troops in with notepad, I'm going to be very angry. Any one know for sure?

Don't know anything about it. I'm interested to know about things such as
1)allies arriving at a certain point during the battle instead of being on the field straight away.
2)Factions switching sides during a battle.
3)Can you decide where each faction starts the battle. Because in stw and mi it was all to blatant where people started.
Also playing custom battles did you ever notice that if u were defending your allies always moved to where the attackers start and the attackerd always moved to where the defenders start. And would never fight unless they ran into eachother on the way. Thats just plain weird.

The only absolute is that there are no absolutes.
The good thing about the map editor in any case is, it tells you the coordinates of the area you're at, so if you want to place an army there, all you need to do is write do the coordinates. It'll be much easier than simply guessing and testing.
Verysoon, the map editor is just that, a map editor, not a battle editor.
However I did see somewhere that a battle editor may be released. i.e. the tool the devs used to create historical battles.
If not editing the adf files is so easy it's not really a problem
Well good. The easier things are to do usually the more people try their hand to it. So we should get a lot more hitorical battles and such.
But yeah I seem to remember that we were able to make historical battles with MI and possible STW aswell.

A form of battle editor is envisioned where you can create the equivalent to historical campaigns - including branched campaigns (havent chased up on this for a while mind you)
well if you look into the original adf files (however still has these after all the modding) of the demo you'll se that the positions are very 'exact', ie. they are not 42000 but 42178 so either it must be really easy to use or there is abattle editor cos noone would go through so much crap for some positioning. (except me that is)

ah hah! perhaps another option for improvement in the form of an expansion... (any thing to say on expansions for MTW then check out my thread "the future of MTW" if you like).

The assasin of night is a dangerous foe, the assasin of day is extremely dangerous
The assassin of night is a dangerous foe, however, the assassin of day is most fear-inspiring and dangerous foe from life and battlefield alike.

HomeLAN - Will there be a mission editor provided in the game?
Ian Roxburgh - Yes. The game will ship with a full map editor that enables players to build their own battlefields for use in custom and multiplayer battles. We’ll also be making the Historical Battle editor available for download after release. This will enable players to build their own one-off historical battles or string several of these together to form a campaign (as in the game).
