Thread: Patch Troubles

    Default Patch Troubles

    Dear All:

Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.

I've just downloaded the 1.2 patch for Med II, but I can't install it for it keeps telling me this: "Application has performed an illegal instruction and will close."

Questions here: 1) What the blazes does this mean? 2) Is it something I did? 3)Is it something Gus, my computer, did? 4) What would DOS have to do with a modern day game?

This is beginning to drive me bananas up here. Any suggestions, helpful hints and/or vague will be entertained here.

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!!

    Sincerely yours always,

    Indy.

    Good evening from Finland!

I'm not very good with computers but it seems to me that either your patch file or game installation is somehow corrupted. If I had such a problem I'd re-download that huge patch file (Duh!) and try again. If that wouldn't work I'd re-install the game and then install the patch. I've heard some people have had similar problems with the patch but re-downloading did help. You might want to hear some other opinions before starting such large operations... Just in case someone else knows better.

Before redownloading, check to see if the file size on your end is the same as from where you're downloading it. From what I can see, it should be 643,088,529 bytes. If there's a variance, you probably do need to redownload, if there isn't a variance... hmm, your first step should probably be to reinstall the unpatched game.

    Good luck. :)

You told me to see if the number of bytes for the files matched. How do I do this? Do I go back to the site from where I got the file in the first place? I could do that.

Right click on the file you've downloaded and select "properties" to see its exact size. Then see if it matches with the size it should be.

I cannot patch M2TW to 1.2 even after uninstalling, deleting SEGA folder, re0installing and then patching game to 1.2. During the installation of patch 1.2 I get the following message and always the following message:

    Error: invalid or missing target

    H:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\sounds\Voice1.dat

    Update cannot be continued

    Help.

    Gentlemen:

Good afternoon from Canada!!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.

Gents, you'll be happy to know that after a day in outpatient surgery (read: a trip to the shop), Gus has just happily accepted the patch, which I have just downloaded into my main Med II files. This oughta keep the HRE, the Byzantines and the Sicilians in line!!!!! I will also have plenty of room for Kingdoms, which is coming to my neck of the woods on the 29th of this month. Needless to say, I'm one VERY HAPPY CAMPER!!!!!!

In closing, I'd like to thank you all for your help. I'm now ready to take another crack at Lusted's wonderful mod--Lands to Conquer!!!!!

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!

    Sincerely yours always,

    Indy.

Get some registry cleaner (or do it your self) and clean the entry in the registry referring to voice.dat. That should work.

Thank you, Monsieur Alphonse. I will try it this weekend and let you know how it goes. BTW, are you attempting to re-conquer the Spanish Netherlands by any chance?

I am always trying to conquer the Spanish Netherlands because that is were I am living. Even now in my 6,212nd or so campaign as the Turks I will try to do what I always try: take over the world
