Thread: more missions and other suggestions
KuKulzA 20:03 08-14-2007
I really like Europa Barbarorum, and I figure a few kindly and respectfully explained suggestions might go well with you guys as you no doubt want to continuously improve the game. I thought it'd be cool to have certain side-missions that would grant the conquerer certain things... perhaps it doesn't seem a good idea to youg uys but I just wanted to know...
because historically oftentimes defeated people offered up their soldiers and some wealth to the conquerers in exchange for partial self-government

for example
Safot Softim biQarthadast
Barcid
Upon taking all of the Iberian peninsula and taking all of Italy save Roma, you'll get ___ mnai from the Romans every turn for so many turns and they are not allowed to train any more troops till the end of that.. 10 turns perhaps? This would follow the Punic/Greek style of warfare, being that you don't actually kill off opponents, unlike the Romans who had a different view on war. Also, southern Italian MICs can start training Samnites?
African
Upon taking / holding Kart-Hadast, Atiqa, Adrumento, Lepki, Garama, Kirtsan, Ippone, Tuat, Siga, Sala, and Lixus you will have completed a mission for the aristocratic Carthaginians wishing to expand into Africa. This will grant a wider array of local levies, like for instance local Numidian nobles perhaps (like in the concept art), or those Garamantine Warriors and just a wider array of local African soldiery.

Silk Road (Pahlava, Baktria, Saka Rauka, Arche Seleukeia)
Upon controlling all of the cities along the Silk Road your faction will be allowed to built a "protected Trade Routes" structure which by protecting the silk road better, will allow for increase trade and public order bonus due to happiness... makes sense right?

India (Saka Rauka, Baktria, Arche Seleukeia)
Upon conquering Taksashila, Opiana, and Patala the Rajas of northern India will grant you a (noble/Rajah/prince cavalry unit) as well as 5 units of elephants. As a side suggestion, would it be alright to have Indian Elephants from India look like how native Indian War Elephants would look? maybe give them a Hindu name? and then Hellenic-used elephants be named in Greek and have Hellenic equipment and riders? Just a thought, I know there's a max as to how many units can be added. Rewarded armies can be disbanded if the player doesn't want them so I don't think it's any big issue upkeep wise (talking to Saka folks here)

Conquest of the Scythians and Bosphorans (Getai, Sauromatae, Koinon Hellenon)
When you have conquered Mikra Skythia, Skythia, Taurike Chersonesos, and Bosphorion Tyrranesis, 2 units of Skuda Uaezdaettae, 2 Skuda Baexdzhyntae, 2 Skuda Fat Aexdzhyntae, 2 Skuda Fistaeg Fat Aexdzhyntae, and 2 Classic Greek Hoplites... rewarded armies can be disbanded if the player doesn't want them so I don't think it's any big issue (esp. for poor Sauromatae folks)

Arrival of the Yuezhi
A bunch of Early Yuezhi nobles will arrive near Chighu at BCE. I don't know if it'd be better to have them be Eleutheroi and be scripted to mercilously attack everyone or if they should be spawned as a Saka Rauka controlled army. Rewarded armies can be disbanded if the player doesn't want them so I don't think it's any big issue, esp. for economically strained nomads (Saka again)

those are my ideas, and I'm sure you guys have thought of these already but I'd just like to bring these up and see if the EB team is interested in implementing. Thanks for hearing me out!

There already is a Bosphorian mission for Pontos. If Sauromatae attacks the Crimean pennisula, the mission will trigger. When you go to help, an army of Greeks & Skythians will spawn to help you out.

You could do a search for the "all previews in one thread" thread.

The Sauromations have to attack the towns first, and since they usually do nothing, it is a rare mission to see. Also, the reinforcement army spawns as a rebel army that you have to bribe. Bribing the army was easy in RTW1.2, but CA increased the bribing difficultly somewhere along the way, and the army is much more difficult to bribe now. It may just be spawned under Pontos control in the future.

Could it be spawned under Pontus if the player accepts the mission, or else rebels if the player doesn't?

what about at a certain date a Han emmisary (Eleutheroi diplomat) going to the Saka capital and then a notification saying Han China is extending official recognition and trade with the Saka. And then it increase your trade? I mean it's global, and the Saka had contacts with Han China....
or was that the Yuezhi? *sigh*...

and what about if the Getai take all of Greece? (destroying Epeiros, Makedon, and KH). Can they then built stone walls, having Greek architects now enveloped into their empire?

and what about Kart-Hadast? Can they get a bonus if they retake their old Phoenician homelands?

^ Yeh, that emissary thing occurred more than 100 years after EB's starting date...so that wouldn't work.

It would if it was only 100 years after the START date, it could be scripted.

People should read previews more carefully.

Well, we now have indestructible buildings in certain provinces on the map's edge that will help those provinces when it comes to trade. Provinces in India are most affected, but also those on the northeast corner of the map and on the east and west coasts of Africa.

Here is an example of one in the Saka Rauka lands - note the region specific description and "level" of bonuses as well:

Here is one on the Red Sea at a Ptolemaic port, with its own description and level of bonuses also:

There are more, but the rest look similar to these. We hope it will provide a more realistic trade system.
Perhaps this has something to do with it?

Perhaps they could make a reform that triggers after 100 years of playing that enables those "buildings" to be upgraded to the next level that gives bigger trade bonuses.
