Avoiding corrupt saves?

Assuming that the problem is corrupt saved games, is there anything that I might have done that caused them and that I could avoid doing in future?

I have one.

Dont close Rome when a turn starts with Ctrl + Alt + Del or anyway of doing this. If you do this, the game will be corrupted.

It's the only I know.
