Can other factions elect their leader like the Pope?

Is it possible to create or edit a faction so that it's leader is determined the same way as the Pope? I was wondering if the HRE leader could be elected this way, with generals needing a certain trait to vote like Cardinals.

I think there is a file where you can turn family trees off for whatever factions you choose. I think then the best General tends to be elected as the leader when the old one dies.

Interesting. Is it possible to select candidates from other factions like with cardinals, or choose who gets elected before hand?

Well you could probably try setting them up as papal_faction but I guess you can only have one of those.
