Enemy Retreat During Battle Pop-up Screen

I attacked a Mongol army, and the little screen showing the opposing Generals popped up. Then, I clicked night attack, and then the enemy army retreated, while this screen was still up. I went to start battle, but it got stuck when loading. I'll need to load it up and try again. Playing 1.2 BTW.

EDIT: Just a note, I also saved the game during that pop-up screen. Having just loaded it again, there was no pop-up screen, the first thing I saw was the Mongols retreating on the campaign map. A bizarre twist though, Aztec generals now speak like Mongol Generals when I click on them...

Hmm, I sometimes cause an enemy retreat in mid-dialogue when I click the night attack button, but if I then go on to fight the battle myself it loads just fine. Try an auto-calc?
