Has anyone else gone as far as conquering the new world? As Portugal, I've gone as far as capturing the first city with a fully tooled up stack, and have now held off the Aztec reconquista horde long enough - 5 stacks of the most colourful troops you can imagine. For such a relatively small part of the end-game, they certainly put a lot of effort into those troops! The generals in particular were gorgeously done. After fighting numerous european and middle eastern enemies, they certainly brighten up the game.
5000 elite aztecs have met a sticky end against the fortifications of their old city...often I was outnumbered 3-5 to one.
So now, I am busily pumping out conquistadors as my original troops have worn themselves out. The Aztecs have completely emptied their cities of troops - all slaughtered by my invading conquistadors - leaving only Montezuma in the central city, and some minor troops in the capital. The New World is ripe for the taking.
I play VH/VH and I found the Aztecs a bit confusing. The generals all had an extremely low level of leadership - which meant that as soon as I got the upper hand I found quite easy to get the whole lot of them running. Considering the stats of such soldiers as eagle and jaguar warriors, I thought it might have been a bit harder. But my Portuguese Knights (all upgrades) and eventually Conquistadores made mincemeat of them. One unit of knights killed 400 Aztecs!
Anyone else have similar experiences they want to share?
