Default Need help - new graphics card/monitor issues

I just today came to be the owner of a new ATI x1950 graphics card. I installed it, went through the hassles of installing drivers, and everything is fine, except for one problem - everything seems very slightly blurry, and there are annoying flickering vertical lines on the monitor screen, like a TV that hasn't been connected up properly.

I think it might have to do with the adapter the card came with with, but i'm not really sure. It's very annoying, because if i run it at a lower resolution, such as 1024x768 there is no lines or blurriness. Plus, i can't increase the refresh rate beyond 60Hz, so it hurts my eyes if i look at the monitor for more than 10 minutes.

    Please help me!

EDIT: This is really getting annoying, whenever i am at my wits end and make a thread in here asking for help, a minute afterwards i suddenly get a bright idea, like a lightbulb appearing above my head in a cartoon. Managed to figure out a way to get my refresh rate higher, which in turn has caused the lines and blurriness to go away.

EDIT EDIT: Check below for more info - the issue still won't go away. If i start up a game the refresh rate is reset.

Turns out i haven't solved the problem. Whenever i try to run a game it gets forced back to 60Hz and ends up looking fugly. I'm currently using my Dad's monitor which uses a normal 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:10, and it's absolutely fine.

The only other difference between this monitor and my monitor is that my monitor uses a VGA socket, while this one uses a DVI socket. The only way i could use my monitor with the card was through the use of a an adapter that came in the box, and i think maybe that could be where the issue is coming from, a faulty adapter? Or maybe it just doesn't like widescreen resolutions running at 60Hz?

An extremely helpful person over at the widescreengamingforums.com managed to find my solution. Turns out all i had to do was press the autoconfig button :D

Anyway, now i need to fix the World in Conflict demo.
