Thread: Wonders

    Default Wonders

i was playing campaign one day and i conquered a settlement and it showed that i also got a wonder with it. The wonder said all my settlements gain a 20% public order bonus and all building take 20% less time to build. (Greeks got really pissed off and tried to recapture it with their fac leader lol). SO i was wondering how many wonders are there in the entire campaign map and what are all the effects of them?

The wonders are the temple of Zeus in Corinth, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus at Rhodes, The light house at Alexandria, the Pyramids at Memphis, the Hanging gardens of Babyon in Seleucia, and there is one in Sardis but I can't remember what it is. The gardens of Babylon increase farming output and the Colossus increases naval trade. I'm not sure about the rest.

    Hi tra003,
In addition to what woad&fangs stated:
The Statue of Zeus in Peoloponesus (Corinth) gives a permanent bonus of +10% to public order in all settlements.
The Pyramids in Middle Egypt (Memphis) cancel all culture penalties for buildings of the Egyptian culture.
The Pharos Lighthouse in the Nile Delta (Alexandria) seems to add to the naval movement of the owning faction - research claims the bonus is 25%. It claims to reduce the chance of ships sinking, but past research claims otherwise.
The Temple of Artemis in Ionia (Ephesus) reduces the construction cost of all religious buildings by 20%.
The Hanging Gardens in Babylonia (Selucia) add a 20% bonus to the farming revenue from all settlements.
The Colossus of Rhodes in, rather predictably, Rhodes adds a large 40% bonus to trade.
The Mausoleum in Lycia (Halicarnassus) subtracts 20% off building times. This only applies to buildings that require five turns or more to build though.

Hope this helps, enjoy your conquests, cheers!

    Hi

The initial post talks about one wonder both reducing construction time and improving public order. There is no wonder in unmoddified RTW that does both things yet the statement is true in some respects.

All wonders provide a temporary increase to public order. This reduces at 5% per turn. Only Zeus has a lasting public order benefit.

Speaking of wonders, I was a little disappointed with their positioning.

Obviously, historically the 7 Wonders were concentrated in the 'Civilised World' of Greece and Near Asia, but would it have been possible to change this slightly?

I would prefered each faction to have a 'wonder' of some kind that gave benefits to them specifically. In particular I would have liked to have seen Stonehenge given to Britannia which would increase effectiveness of druids, for example. I don't know enough ancient history to give each faction such a bonus but i'm sure they existed.

Essentially when playing as Britannia, it seems as if 'everything is over there'; the introduction of a 'sacred place' to be defended at all costs would have made the game more interesting to me.

    What does everyone else think?

    Hello CrazyGuy

I also noticed the location of wonders is all towards the east.

As Julii I completed the Imperial campaign without capturing a single wonder. Next campaign was Brutii. Captured several wonders in quick succession.

So agree that the game could have been tweaked to provide wonders or some other strategic objective at different points on the map.

Bear in mind that the Wonders were listed by civilized people for civilized people.
It's no surprise then to look down on wonders made by unshaven "barbarians".

The earliest extant version of a list of seven wonders was compiled by Antipater of Sidon, who described the structures in a poem around 140 BC
Then, it's true I'd like more of those special buildings too.
Are they a hard coded limit ?
If not, I'm considering adding some.
Next problem, what to add ? Stonehenge, and then ? I've no idea.

The folks modding at Europa Barbarorum have done a good bit of this. Lots of the factions now have special shrines, sacred places, etc. I do not know if they influence gameplay, or if they have removed all gameplay elements from them.
