    Default Information on Battlefield Commands

    Greetings.

I am looking for information pertaining to battlefield commands that are not covered in the tutorial or manual. I've seen them in print somewhere, but for the life of me, can't remember where.

Onc every specific command I'm looking for is ordering a unit to change facing. I'm finding that responding to the developing battlespace may require, for instance, a unit of spears or archers to adjust facing without moving the center of the unit: say from this facing __ to this facing /

    Many Thanks!

    From the FAQ thread:
Q: How do I get them to face in a different direction?

A: There’s a couple of ways to do this. If you want them facing the same direction that they were facing before you ordered them to change direction, then just hold down the “Alt” key and left click. When they get to where you want them to be, they will change their facing to the same direction it was before they started moving. Another alternative is that when they get to where you want them, hold down the “Alt” and right click in the direction you want them to face.
Q: I think I’ve got it, but let’s make sure. “Alt” + left clicking will move a unit to a new location will make them keep the same facing they had originally, and “Alt” + right clicking will have a unit change it’s facing while remaining in place?

Thanks! Probably should pay more attention to FAQ stuff . . .

Some shortcuts that make MTW more enjoyable (clicking things on the panel is way too slow i find).

"G": group/ungroup: Vital for organising your units in the interface and the map
"F,E,H": The engage mode shortcuts and the hold position shortcut; vital for effectively control in the heat of the fight
"Control+R": The shortcut for ordering units to run if they march and march if they run - essential.
"Backspace": Cancel orders/Stop shortcut. Again essential for effective control in the heat of a fight.
"A": Fire at will/cease fire shortcut for ranged units
    "S": Skirmish mode on/off shortcut.

Minor correction on Noir's otherwise sound post: "S" is not a toggle - it only turns skirmish ON. It should be grouped with F and E, as Skirmish, hold Formation and Engage at will are three options in the same class, selecting any one will deselect the others. A and H for fire At will and Hold position ARE toggles.

Also C, O and W will select your formation type: Close, Open or Wedge

NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Ctrl-C (select all Cavalry), Ctrl-O (rOut!) and Ctrl-W (Withdraw). One slip with the second one can lose you the battle if the circumstances are right

I never use Ctrl-R in the heat of battle, as I always worry it may be the Rout order and generally don't have time to grab the manual before the Varangians reach my front line
