Well if running the game doesn't work for you there's another problem :P
Did you delete the geography files?
Hmm, I must have missed those when I read through your guide the second time. It did fix a problem, but not anything I've mentioned in this thread.
And it's not the game won't run, I can run the game with the regular application and the mod with the batch file. It's just the shortcut to my mod that isn't working.
Ah sorry I misread, just continue using the batch file then.Originally Posted by Cecil XIX
Simply add this to your config file:
Then run the game, get the kickback and quit the game. Afterwards open your logs/system.log.txt, scroll to the end and see what the problem is.Code:to = logs/system.log.txt level = * error
Ah, I see. I assumed the system.log in the Medieval II folder was what I wanted, since the log folder was empty but when I went to check after getting the problem, the Medieval II file was unchanged and another system.log file had appeared in the log folder.
Anyways, it said something about an error in descr_strat that I was able to fix. I had forget to edit the relatives list after I moved a relative out of the faction. Now I don't get kicked back to the menu, but the loading screen goes on ad infinitum.

I assume the only problem is with the movie files, but I don't know what "empty tag", "(4:26)" or "(6:20)" means.

Yeah the movie files are bugged in my mod folder installer, you should just delete them (and I should make a fixed version). They probably won't cause your problem though as I was playing fine with bugged movies files.
You say you created a new faction, does that mean you added it to descr_sm_factions and the whole stuff?
If so, does it work in custom battles?
Having deleted the movie files and trying again, it did indeed not fix my problem. Oddly enough, the error log only had one line.

As for my method, I used DukeofSerbia's guide to creating new factions. For each file he mentioned I searched for 'HRE', and for each instance I copied the data and replaced 'HRE' with 'Austria'. The exception was names.txt, which I did not modify since I did not add any new names.
The Custom Battles were intersesting. The faction symbol didn't show up of course, but on the unit selection screen all the units were displayed as RTW peasent. Further more, when I tried a battle they units were invisible with only the green markers to indicate their presence. In the first battle I order them forward, and they routed immidiately. The second time I let them receive the enemy charge, and they killed the enemy captain and routed them. Not quite sure how that happened.
You have to copy the HRE section in names.txt, too that could well be the culprit. You also have to put characters on the map with names that Austria has, although I think that the faction shouldn't work in custom battles either, then.
You also have to copy the unit cards and make new entries in the modelsdb file if you want to see the units.
Furthermore, did you edit text/expanded.txt and added all the strings you have to add for your faction?
