Thread: RTW-EB in Linux

    Default RTW-EB in Linux

I'm an Ubuntu user and the only reason I still have a Windows XP partition is playing PC games, mainly (surprise!) RTW-EB. I heard about Cedega (http://www.cedega.com/) which lets you play Windows games on Linux. Rome Total War is in their game list.

Has anyone tried it? With or without Europa Barbarorum? Does it run smoothly? Does it make the game more demanding in hardware?

If anyone knows any other way to play Europa Barbarorum in Linux please let me know!

    Good distro too!

As far as RTW goes, it doesn't seem like it plays to well with Cedega, which is all the same because I find they're use of the code unsavory since they took a fair amount of it from WINE without following the license. It seems that performance has improved with Cedega 6.0 so if you feel up to it, give it a try. Although, all things considered you will probably need even higher specs to play it at the same quality as you do on Windows.

I agree, Cedega and WINE might sound lovely but any game that uses a somewhat modern version of DirectX takes a beating with the emulation. Your best bet is to complain to OpenGL for not supporting anything but FPS libraries or boot Windows :) Or perhaps if you have a super computer it might run decent.
