Hail Mary was 2 yards short. Lolz.
The coaches lost that for the ravens. With the time out called when they'd won the game, then the timeout wasted on the challenge. 35 yards of penalty didn't help mind you.
That hail mary pass was beautiful to see though.
Billick deserved that loss. He had the game won and, as usual, he out-thought himself and screwed over his team. Twice. I mean, what kind of fool gives Belicheck more time to scheme up a good fourth down play, gives the offensive line more rest, and steals the momentum from a D that's just had a great stop on 3rd down? I disagreed with the D call after the false start too, but only because after that much down time you've got to gamble and bring the heat, otherwise, as we saw, not getting to Brady means giving up the first down.
Credit the Pats though, when it counted they stopped McGahee and shored up the middle of the D. I didn't think they could do it. I can't even tell you what they changed, but they did it. The Eagles game wasn't a blueprint because very few teams actually can blitz the way they do, but this game could be a blueprint.
Very reminiscent of the '05 Colts. They didn't just forget to run the ball on O, they forgot how to defend the run on D. Now will the Pats pick the running game back up, on both sides, or is Pittsburg going to smash their way to victory? Big, big factor is whether or not Davenport plays for the Steelers.

And the Pats survive....
On to 3 home games in a row. Steelers are a fine team should be a good game. Pats stole one last night that should have been a loss.
Thanks Mr Billick !![]()

Well, I suppose that made up for the dead game I watched last time. Interesting
stuff. And Mr. McGahee deserves a mention for name alone, if not for the fact
that he seemed impressive to an outside observer who knows relatively little
about the sport.
it's the **** that happens while you're waiting for moments that never come
That was actually, to me, the finest game to watch, as a spectator, that I've seen in the last 5 years. It had everything: unexpected challenge from an underdog, players overcoming handicaps imposed by their bosses (coaches), an actual RUNNING game, passes thrown as if shot out of RPG's, 'Hail Mary' passes - oh the drama.![]()
On the down side: could the commentators have been more biased? Jeez. It was kinda funny to hear them squirm when it became distinctly possible that Baltimore could actually take the game - then gush with relief when Brady began his famed 2-minute drill. Boy, that guy (Brady) is one heckuva closer.
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.
It was entertaining but I think next weeks showdown of the Pats Steelers will be pretty dam good too. The Pats cant stop the run apparantly and Pittsburgh can run the ball.Originally Posted by KukriKhan

Indeed it was. Probably what the NFL is all about in one game...O and you forgot drama and controversy too!Originally Posted by KukriKhan

I wish we had decent commentators that just call the game and don't bomb us with stats, yelling, arguing, stupid one-sided commentary. Switching of allegiance mid-game. And as for the game. The coaches blew it BAD! They already screwed up with the time out and then decide not to rush Brady when it obviously was workingI coulda called a better game

Yes, as I have said before the best way to disrupt the patriots is blitz and collapse the pocket forcing them to run the ball. Every team who has done that has had a shot at winning.Originally Posted by Decker
You dont blitz and leave in a dime package the pats O line is too good they will buy brady that couple extra seconds and thats a killer with this recieving core.
You want to beat the pats you have to take your chances and blitz them.

Eeks. 37-7 at halftime. Ravens only TD coming on a kick return. Ouch. Although to be fair, its not surprising the Ravens are drained after that Monday game against the Patsies.

You know, I kinda rooted for the Colts when they made their run at undefeated. I wish I could root for the Pats to do it, but the cheating thing makes it impossible, plus I don't want Moss to collect a ring.
Raiders line play got exposed today on both sides of the ball, but then we knew Green Bay's O line was good. It's disheartening that Russel didn't get a chance to play, but that was more or less guaranteed by putting him on 3rd string for the start. The defense looked cold too, stiff, slow, unable to keep up. I'm hoping that was the weather rather than age catching up.

....And my Vikings continue to roll! Granted the 49ers aren't the greatest team around, but we still managed to win in San Francisco (for the first time in 19 years, no less) despite AP being held to a paltry 3 yards on the ground. If Tavares keeps on as he has the last 3-4 games, he might actually start being called a good quarterback!
We've won 4 in a row now, and only have to win 2 of the final 3 games to secure the last wild-card spot in the playoffs. Not bad for a team that only a month ago, everyone (including myself) had given up for dead.![]()

To be honest, yes I still would. Childress deserves very little credit for the team's recent success -- it has far more to do with Tavares finally learning how to "manage the game" (to borrow a phrase I've heard so often lately) and the secondary improving their pass defense. I firmly believe that Reid could do more with less.Originally Posted by GeneralHankerchief
That's true, and I've wondered about that as well. Maybe Andy doesn't trust your guys' O-line to create running lanes for him? I don't know.Originally Posted by GeneralHankerchief

Oh wow... looks like Bobby Petrino just resigned.
Man, I feel sorry for the Falcons. First they lose Vick, then Petrino... I thought he would've lasted at least a year. He did kind of have a free pass for this season, then he'd nab his Louisville QB in the draft and start afresh.
Note to Eagles: When searching for Reid's replacement, don't pick a big-name college coach.
-edit- Oh, and because I have nothing better to do, I'm just wondering why the daisy this story is featured on ESPN.

Petrino made the right call. It was either this, or get rid of all his veterans, because they stopped listening to him about 6 weeks ago, and rightly so. He didn't consult with any of them on, well, anything, and really didn't even want to hear their opinions. That might work in college where, to some extent, the players are still kids, but in the NFL they're men, and quite a few of them make more money and mean more to the team than Petrino. Players need discipline, but they also need to be part of the process.
College success means zilch in the NFL. At a big college you get to schedule cakewalk teams for 1/3-1/2 your games, you get to play more than half your games at home, and there's no such thing as a salary cap. In the NFL you have to play fair against other good teams every game. Not many of the college guys can adapt to that.
