The main question here is Vista or XP?

I'm curious as to why you say that, as maybe you can help me with my problem. On my desktop, I use XP, and I have absolutely no problems playing M2TW or Kingdoms.

On my laptop, which is brand new and a way more kick-arse machine (better gfx card, more RAM, the whole works) I use Vista and have been having nothing but problems with Kingdoms. At first, I:

    1) Installed Kingdoms over a clean M2TW install
    2) Started the game and played 2 turns of the Britannia campaign as well as a couple of battles to make sure everything worked
    3) Tried to "unpack all," but what happens is that the unpacker starts, unpacks about half of the files, then stops, somewhere around 20,000 out of 36,000 files (in the main campaign), and when I look in the data folder, none of the files have actually been unpacked. The same thing happens trying to unpack the mods. The unpacker runs, but none of the files end up in the data folders.

After unpacking, the game kept encountering an unspecified error everytime I try to go to the battle screen and shut down. IIRC, this is the same problem that happens if the files are unpacked but the "data\descr_geography_new.txt" and "data\descr_geography_new.db" files are not deleted. But those files were not unpacked to any of the data folders when I looked for them.

So I completely uninstalled and did a brand new install of M2TW and Kingdoms, and did not run the unpacker. No I can play Britannia and The Americas no problem, but either of the other factions ctds whenever I enter the battle screens.

This is driving be batty. Any help would be appreciated.

My memory may be a bit spotty here, but I believe that Dx10 may have problems with M2TW.

Also, what is your videocard and its driver? some of the newer drivers may have issues with M2TW due to Vista and DX10.

    Here are my specs:

    Dell Inspiron 1720
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (2MB cache/1.8GHz/800Mhz FSB)
2GB Shared dual channel DDR2 SDRAM
    256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GT

But I don't see how it could be a hardware problem if I am able to play some campaigns but not others. I suspect it has something to do with Vista and the security therein (i.e. it won't let certain files or folders be modified). Is anybody a Vista expert?
