what it is, what does it do?
i noticed that when it is on high it slows down character movements on campaign map and when it is on low the characters, and game in general, move smoother![]()
thanks
It makes thing look smoother, of course. Your system probably isn't good enough to play with AA without that hit to your game speed.
my processor is 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2Duo Processor E6600, RAM Memory 2048 MB, graphic card nVidia GeForce 7500 dedicted up to 512.Originally Posted by abou
shouldnt that be powerful enough? will changing of the graphic card, to lets say nVidia GeForce 8600 GT help? or do i need a more powerful processor too?
thanks for answering my noobish questions.
I would think that your setup would be fine. Maybe update to the latest drivers?

With a system like that....you should have no problems with AA on the highest settings.
I, for one, can tell a fairly significant difference between off and low, but very little difference between low and high, so I just leave it on low. I think many higher end video cards have 2XAA, 4XAA, etc., but mine just has low and high.
Just some thoughts....playing with it on low will probably give a nice balance between graphics and game performance.
Good luck, and I wish I had your system. :P

you shouldn't have to update any drivers to get 4X AA with your rig...

Its your card thats holding things back . The 7500 isn't that great . You can tell its bad when it has the option to syphon off some of your ram to be used for vram.

For Geforce cards, it doesn't really matter too much about the first number, its the 3 numbers at the end that count for gaming. For gaming, anything less that a 600 is going to cause problems, but really you should be getting an 800 if you are into regular gaming. Its all about the pipes.

I am running a Win XP P4 3.06ghz, 1GB, with a radeon x1650 256mb and AA at any setting gives me a hit of maybe 5fps at most. With your rig providing the system is well maintained I wouldn't anticipate much slowdown, if it does make a major hit then as others have mentioned yeah perhaps time for a driver update or windows reinstall or something.
Either way RTW is hardly quake or something anyway so yes anti-aliasing wont make a huge difference as far as your gameplay experience will go.
Anyway to summarise....
If you can run with it on without it being to the detriment of your game you may as well, however if you can't you're not missing very much
EDIT just saw the posts by Foot and russia, a day of defeat clanmate of mine has that card, shared vram is nasty and truly holds the chipset back. Perhaps just leave AA off it wont help your system ram (also important with all the crunching EB does :p)

dumb question:
Do you have V-Sync enabled?
V-Sync + AA = gay on 7xxx geforce cards.

There is a text file in your data folder called descr_auto_optimise_options.txt. Go there and enable anti aliasing for all types of graphics cards. The stupid game thinks my computer cant handle any anti aliasing but as a matter of fact I can turn it on high for small and medium battles and keep it on medium for large ones.Originally Posted by TWFanatic

RTW (even w/EB) is not even making your video card sweat. Esp since most of the unit textures are a measly 256x256. CPU and RAM have the most effect on EB and what you have should be plenty.Originally Posted by Sarkiss
I have a descr_auto_optimise_options.txt file that activates all the highest options. Before you spend $$ on an 8 series card, PM me your email and i'll send it

I recently upgraded my system and I’ve noticed a big difference after adding eight times the RAM and using a 8800 Ultra.
No lag where there was lag and top draw looking graphics where there were ok graphics.
Well, 8 times the ram and an 8800 will do that.
For the money you likely spent, I would hope so.
