    Nope. As they appear after the Grand Campaign begins.

    i wouldnt be suprised if a mod did appear for it; just like there are mods for the emmergent factions in BI. Give it time my friend.

    Unless it hardcoded in, then you're screwed! :P

    the regnum dei mod and i bet several other mods made the mongols, timurids and aztecs playable in the grand campaign.

    You can of sorts see a entry by faction heir who has a mod for this as part of his set up. I am unable to post his link. You might also find it in the mod section

    I was going to release a similar mod for M2, however CA have made it so staggeringly easy that no modding is required!

    Here's what to do:

    Have a look in your Medieval II Total War folder and you'll see a file called medieval2.preference.cfg - right click on this file and go to Edit and the file will open in Notepad.

    Add the following three lines to the [multiplayer] section (which were originally posted here):

    [multiplayer]
    playable = true
    hotseat_turns = true
    hotseat_scroll = false

    Then start a campaign as normal and select England (remember to deselect any other factions additionally highlighted).

    Launch the campaign and bring down the M2 console by pressing the ' key.

    Type in:

    control mongols

    or

    control timurids

    depending on which you want to play as. Then type in:

    control england

    The game will then autopilot you (warning this may take a while) to the appearance of your chosen faction and give you control of them."

    You mean a lot easier to make it happen through tweaks?

    ... or a lot easier to win as the mongols in Kingdoms?

    I have Kingdoms, but I wasn't going to start playing until I got bored with Med 2.

    If you play as Mongols in Kingdoms, are the settlements and other gameplay aspects the same as the vanilla game?

    What I mean is that are the normal factions still there or are you playing against tuetonics, crusaders, etc.

    5 settlements/missions/family tree and so on just no victory conditions so no FMV at the end, oh you are a part of the teutonic map so just the teutonic factions AFAIK
