Thread: Tilde key (~) question.

  1. #1

    Default Tilde key (~) question.

Hello, I know this question isnt EB specific but I thought I would post here as I thought you guys might be more knowledgeable

Anyways I cant seem to get the shell to come up when I press the Tilde key. I remember getting the shell up a while back. Pretty sure it was on lastest version of EB too... Just seems weird it wont work now. Any suggestions? Need any other info feel free to ask.

On a side note I love your mod... Its brilliant. I've had no repeating crashes and only two once off ones! Played as Epeiros and was probably 2/3 to 3/4 of the way to finishing the campaign. Now im starting Baktria.

You may want to check your Caps lock status, perhaps. If it worked before, it should work now unless you did something to it .

Thanks for the reply, thought I was retarded for it being caps lock... So I started up EB ready to get rid of Fog of War to have a looksie around the map and learn where the more remote cities are.... Long story short its still not working. Stupid computer... Its not my PC its my parents as mine blew up and its set up all weird. Though I can use it during typing ` ~ but it wont bring up the console in RTW...

Is there any other way to bring up the console?

    Thanks again

It's the key below Esc I think, regardless of keyboard layout. On my norwegian one for instance it's | rather than ~. If you have more trouble, you could try to go to regional settings and add the English keyboard layout. Make sure to make the original one the default though, or your parents might be mad at you for screwing up their keyboard.

Yea i know it should be the key below esc. I have a standard QWERTY keyboard. Its just not working.

Its all default settings language etc etc.

Looking around the RTW and EB folders I did find a preferences DAT file. Tho I dont know what to do with it, i'm a scrub when it comes to anything like this :(

Any way to change the hotkeys with this file?

    Thanks

    Rae.

I don't think so. You might want to reinstall. I don't know anything you could have done to make this happen, so I don't know how you can reverse it either.

You shouldn't mess with Hotkeys; as the engine tries to keep track of entire hotkey maps: e.g. layouts. This enables the multiple styles: Total War Style & FPS Style. Etc.

It will however guarantee you to break it when you start modifying things... such a thing usually is really complicated to do without IDE's / reading the designers' mind.

Anyhow: you could try to retype the key below your Esc key (QWERTY => ~) multiple times; experiment with holding the key for a longer time. It may even be a keyboard problem: your key might just be 'lame'/'crippled'; then you've sort of broken it.

Ugh, stupid thing. Really dont want to reinstall... Haha.

Oh well, thanks for answering my questions anyways!

Thing is I dont think it is the keyboard seeing as I can type it in normally anywhere else. Either I've had a file being corrupted somehow or there is a keyboard setting that I dont know about that has been changed.

Cant wait till I get a new PC then I dont have to put up with my mums crap on it.

    Thanks again
