Thread: Campaign Mods?

    Default Campaign Mods?

    Whilst randomly reading through the MTW Modifcation forums, I stumbled the intro to modding thread. In this thread, three types of mods are outlined and defined, including the campaign mod;

    Campaign mod
    A campaign mod only adds a campaign, similar to the Early, High, Late campaigns. This is the only kind of mod that does not interfere with the installation at all. You can have thousands of these mods as long as they don't have the same filename.
    These mods focus on changing small strategic things such as starting treasury/units/buildings/provinces.
    "That sounds good", I said to myself, and used the search utility for 'MTW Campaign Mod', yet I was suprised when I found no results that seemed to be what I was looking for. So my question is this, unless I've misunderstood the definition/function/purpose of campaign mods, why can't I find any?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers, Frunk the Guest.

    Probably because people don't actually call their mod a "campaign mod". A search engine only knows what things are called, not what they are

    The only well-known one I can think of that fits this category (AFAIK)** is the "Pocket Mod" that you'll find in the Hosted Mods section, but there are also little adjustments like "Sahara unlocked" etc which I guess could be called campaign mods under the definition you quoted. It would probably also be worthwhile having a quick trawl through the "Engineer's Guild" whilst you're there, and the downloads section, too, where you might find smaller mods that add a specific faction/make a minor faction playable, or tinker with starting provinces, or maybe alter the economy or unit stats etc etc.

    Also, the majority of mods that are announced and released are conversion mods that make some pretty deep changes that will break the original scenario. It doesn't mean the campaign mods aren't out there, they're just a lot "quieter", I guess.

    ** I've never played it, so can't be 100% - I think some units are renamed, which will affect the main scenarios. From all accounts it's very good, but I just don't have the time to try it myself

    Thanks mate, I had a theory that might be it, just another question, would such campaign mods be compatible with any installed 'major' mods like XL?
    Thanks again to anyone who helps.

    It's not likely for a "vanilla" campaign mod to work within a conversion mod, as it will be replacing files that have already been changed once, and will probably break something along the way.
