Naval Invasions!

Hooray!
I always thought the AI would never launch naval invasions in RTW 1.5, but my current Aedui campaign has shown me that it's possible:
The Koinon Hellenon has shipped a full stack around the lands of my epeirote allies to besiege me at Dalminion AND the Ptolemaioi have captured Rhodos from the KH after being reduced to Salamis by the Seleucids. Now they are trying to invade Asia Minor. I have seen them besiege Rhodos one time in another campaign, but thought it might be coincidence.
Really a surprising thing, I have never been attacked by sea before.

I had that happened to me when I was trying to subdue the Macedonians. It was those whorish Selucids that sent two full stacks by sea to attack my already conquered territory.

I was especially surprised because I don't even have a common border with the KH...but it's a cool thing that sea invasions are possible without BI-exe.

In my current campaign as Makedonia, the Romans invaded my Illyrian territory by sea. After the initial excitement it got boring rather quickly running after all those 2-3 unit "armies" in hilly terrain, while i was waiting for my navy to take care of the tiny fleets.

One thing that surprised me though - even when we did not share a border anymore (due to my master spies causing revolt) they refused to accept peace and kept mounting feeble naval attacks.

I've only once seen a naval attack when the KH, what was only Rhodes at that time, shipped a stack to Lykia and hided in the bush near Halikarnassos.

Possible? Yes.

Happen at an amazinly low and boring frequency? Also yes.

I'm going to port EB to BI after my current campaing simply for the naval invasion aspect.

I've heard much about the smarter battle AI of BI, but after playing as the Sassanids extensively, I was fairly unimpressed, and haven't really touched my BI disc since then (except for XGM, which is also an excellent mod, albeit a little more vanillish than EB).

no no no, it happens all the time when im makedonia.... Its really annoying.

Rome keeps sending half stacks to athens when they dont even own southern italy, its the dumbest thing in the world.

yet.... when rome actually captures corsica and sardinia, those are moments when u think "Alright, mb this thing isnt too bad afterall!"

That's just another example of the lack of any real improvement in the AI, battlefield or otherwise.

I think at this point, though, I'd rather have too many invasions than none at all.

In RTW 1.5 the AI not only ship troops to invade, but also to fight a new treat. In my Romani campaign I invaded Iberia, and without any serious treats from the enemy Emporion and Arse where captured. But than from N. Africa two full stalks of veteran African infantry where shipped to bolster the defences. Even if the AI didnt attacked me, I had to fight against these two armies. And surprisingly I suffered two defeats, on medium battle settings, they simply refused to panic in the most critical of conditions.

EB seems to have more amphibious invasions than vanilla or other mods. I've had them several times; they're annoying but always worth the challenge.

I also haven't seen many sea invasions before my current campaign, that's why I started the thread - but it seems to happen more often than I thought.

In my last Vannilla campaign (I've only had EB for a month) I was playing on 1.5 as Greek Cities and had heaps of Naval invasions. Esp from the Brutii and Scipii, They kept landing stacks near Corinth... Sucked.

Tho on any of my EB campaigns I havent seen any noteable naval invasions. Only the KH invading Halikarnassos from Rhodos.
