Thread: Cannot Re-Install RTW

    Default Cannot Re-Install RTW

OK, so I decided that I would uninstall my EB and my cluttered C:/Program Files/The Creative Assembly folder so i could reinstall the latest version of EB on a copy of a fresh, unplayed and unaltered in any way RTW.

Using "Add or Remove Programs" on the Control panel, I uninstalled first EB then RTW. I also had a copy of RTW and Invasio Barbarorum in my "C:/Program Files/The Creative Assembly" folder, but seeing that they did not appear on "Add or Remove Programs", I just manually deleted those two folders. On the Start/All Programs menu, I also noticed something labeled "eb0.8". I tried to uninstall it using the uninstall program, but since I had uninstalled EB already it would not let me so I just deleted it.

Now the problem: When I try to re-install RTW (which, btw, is the version found in Total War:Eras), it comes up with a message saying "An older version of Rome - Total War has been detected. Please uninstall this before installing Rome - Total War Gold Edition." I have since checked again to make sure all traces of RTW have been eradicated from my computer and have found nothing. However, every time I try to reinstall, the same error message occurs. I am in a desperate situation, unable to even install Rome Total War.

My question is this: How do I track down and get rid of the traces of my old install? Is the "eb0.8" that I deleted off of the start menu the culprit? Or the IBFD and Copy of RTW root folders that I deleted manually?

I have unsuccessfully searched the Org for answers, but I am hoping that this is a small issue that has been raised before and can be easliy fixed. Any links or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try this one. http://www.google.com/search?client=...=Google+Search
    The first hit might work.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

Thanks for the reply, I tried the RTW registry cleaner from Fileplanet with no success, here's the report:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Deleting Key... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\The Creative Assembly
    Not found!
    Deleting Key... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\The Creative Assembly
    Not found!
    Deleting File... C:\WINDOWS\RomeTW.ini
    Not found!
    Removing all temporary files....
    C:\DOCUME~1\Dan\LOCALS~1\Temp\
    Success!
    Uninstall/Cleaning Completed!

I have downloaded and installed the trial version of Registry Mechanic at the top of the Google Search page, but I do not know how to properly use it.

Q: After i unistalled RTW, i can't get it to reinstall again, what can i do?
A: This is (in most cases) caused by some entries in the registry, telling the RTW install Program that RTW is already installed/patched.

    helpfull links (thanks to Foot):

    a) step by step instruction how to delete regestrie entries from my PC
    b) step by step instruction using Reg Cleaner
    c) using install shield
    d) small clean programm

    .
None of these would-be-useful links in the FAQ work (at least for me). Perhaps someone knowledgeable in these topics could provide me with the useful information...

I meant the first hit, not sponsored link. There's a RTW registry cleaner there.
