Thread: How to abandon settlements?

    Default How to abandon settlements?

I now know that it's only possible to sack a settle with a "Horde" because it's supposedly hard coded. But I've formulated a way to do so with a regular army if someone can simply tell me how to abandon a settlement? Here's my idea step by step...

    1- Army attacks city...

    2- Army defeats city defenses...

3- At this point you cannot "Sack", so you do the next best thing "Exterminate Population"...

4- You now occupy the settlement, finish the destruction by destroying all buildings in the settlement worth any money...

5- Abandon city* and move on to the next target!

Please someone help! I'm sure this would be useful for many people...

you can effectively do point 5 just in game play terms by making the city revolt, though that will leave you with a big angry army taking it over....

To make it revolt just destroy all the happiness buildings (which you probably did anyway) take most* of army out and set tax rate to very high....

*It's safest to leave one unit behind, there are a set of conditions that can cause a crash (mainly in mods that have removed peasants) if you're not quite sure about that its best to leave one unit in a city about to revolt, as that stops CTD.

Was looking to see if there was a console command that did it - only thing close I could see was surrender_regions - unfortunately that would give all your settlements to the rebels, which is not really what you need! I might have missed something though, anyone else know????

I know of what your speaking unfortunately if you incite a rebellion you'll lose a ton of revenue from the cities that remain. Most of the time when you lose a region to rebellion your city revenue in all remaining cities go to negative...

P.S. What is the console command of surrender_regions?

console_commands can be used in scripting or in game as a sort of cheat toggle_fow is one that is used often so you can see whole map. See
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showp...98&postcount=2
    for links to lists.

To open RomeShell use ¬ or ~ key depending on your keyboard, a black bar with a prompt will come up at top of map, type console command into that.

    You can use
    surrender_regions alemanni
to give all regions alemanni faction own to slaves - unfortunately I can't find version that just lets you give away one town.

    You can use
    move_character name x,y
to move a rebel general into town once its empty, so long as you know one's name - (to get co-ordinates of town use show_cursorstat in RomeShell whilst hovering cursor over town), that does seem to give the same sort of civil revolt message as triggering revolt though so probably has same effects

I hadn't noticed the effect on other cities - are you sure that isn't just the effect of the army costs being re-distributed?

If you have a diplomat I think you can give a settlement to an AI faction - by opening negotiation and giving them gift - but I don't think you can negotiate properly with rebels.... so a. you'd need diplomat in right place, and b have to not mind settlement going back to enemy.

Failing all that you might need one of the scripting guys to say if you could have a little script that changed ownership of a settlement if you pressed certain button (advisor probably) within settlement screen - I'm not sure if there is much chance of that or not!

Afaik you can check up on settlements' garisson, if there isnt one all you need is to create at least a single slave unit near that settlement, than order it to siege and attack the settlement, this will trigger the AI to attack the settlement, not just siege it but activly attack it, without a garisson I guess that this would auto. result in a loss on your side.
(in MTW2 (havent used it in Rome)the AI can actually be given this command from the other side of the map and they still will be able to attack in the same turn as they get the command, looks somewhat ugly but makes it possible to spawn wherever you want in respect to distance from the target)
