    Default The Samurai Warlords Order Of Battle

    Deployment zones on the battlefield are selectable, biased on the numeric hierarchy of the color you chose to represent your army.

    Please note: Choosing to remain with the original colors of a particular faction is highly recommended, because your Taisho’s flag will always be “that” color, even if you do choose another color for your troops. It is just a way to avoid confusion

    Either way, the order of the colors chosen, will determine where you start in the battle.

    Each side (Attackers, Defenders) is separate in this, although they share the same source (faction colors) for choices. This makes things a little more difficult to organize, but with a minimum of practice can be easily done.

    The lower the number of the color (or faction of the same position), the higher the position on the deployment scale. This is true for all sizes of battles (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4).

    The lowest number = Center
    The next higher = Left Flank (Reserve*)
    The next higher = Right Flank
    The highest number = Advanced Left Flank (Left Flank*)

    Edit: Corrected left and rights

    *Note: In 4v4s the deployment zones of Left Flank and Advanced Left Flank are often labeled as Reserve and Left Flank respectively, although they are still in the same places, ordered by the same numeric formula.

    What is your favorite position to play, and why?

    Edit: I might be a good idea to print out the color chart above (and/or faction chart below), as once a color is chosen, it goes grey on the faction icon

    P.S. Who plays what position is something that needs to be addressed as soon as all team members are present. This can be important, as it may have an influence on what army you bring to a specific battlefield situation .

    Thanks for this, Tomisama. I remember seeing something similar in the Hunter training materials. For some reason it's not easy for me to remember and this will help.

    I used to play the flanker position in 2v2 most often, and we preferred to attack (we were hosting most of the time, and by old STW MP etiquette, the host attacks). Hence, I prefer the higher-numbered positions, putting me on Attack: Front Left Flank, or Back Left Flank. I do better in these positions, generally, because I've played more games from this perspective. I play the other positions too of course, to practice. Lately, I've been liking the light green color of my army, which has been affecting my choice as well, lol.

    I think everyone has their favorite. In 4v4 mine is right flank, which I believe to be the most vulnerable most of the time. I like to have that responsibility, as I have worked out a set of counters to the problems faced there (all-be-it forgotten in the next to the last 4v4 we had last weekend, don’t know what I was thinking on that one).

    If we were playing team matches in a competition, I would probably request that position. But in our more casual Sunday mixes, I would like the opportunity open to play many different deployments, to sharpen all of the skills needed to become a totally complete (competent in all areas) Samurai Warlord

    In these casual weekend games...where I land on entry is where I play (unless specifically asked to 'cross over to the other team').
    That way, never mind who you face there is always a challenge.

    Back in the days of the CWC games it was a different matter. We chose colours (positions) to suit the gamestyle of the team member for who played where and what gameplan was decided.

    Thanks for posting this Tomisama and Ra's - until this was posted up, i was completely unaware of the colour code related to the starting position.

    Now hopefully my armies will be less unfitting to the position i play - i was getting that part wrong sometimes because i'd thought i'd be flank say and end up center or vice versa.

    The numeric ranking of the colors determines the starting positions of the team not the order the colors were chosen.

    That's what I mean Yuuki. The lowest ranking is center, the 2nd lowest is left flank, the 3rd is right flank and the 4th is forward left flank. This is true for 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4.

    1,2 -> center, left.
    1,2,3 -> center, left, right.
    1,2,3,4 -> center, left, right, forward.

    Edit: sorry Tomisama already said it, got confused a bit by the pictures.

    I've added the corresponding numbers to the colors in my post.
    That should make it clearer.

    Taking things a step further, and trying out a format for a proposed Samurai Warlords Map Pack - Battle Planner Web Page

    "You must know your lands"

    http://www.clanwarscomp.org/samwars/swindex.html

    Comming soon, but for now;

    And just in case it is not completely clear to some folks.

    When you join, the game will put you in the “Order Of Join”.

    That is, the first player (the host) will be assigned Defenders Center and first Faction, with first Faction Colors.

    The second to join will be automatically assigned Attackers Center, and the second Faction, with that Factions Colors.

    Next Defenders Left Flank, Attackers Left Flank. Then Defenders Right, Attackers Right, etc. etc..

    In each case the next Faction (and it’s Colors) will be automatically assigned.

    But, you can choose the position you wish to play in multiplayer by either changing the Faction with it’s original Color, or the Faction Color alone.

    "The Order Of Colors"

    The games rules on this are, that the one who has the Color first keeps it.

    But working with your team allies you can arrange what deployment posision you wish to start with.
