    So you're a hunter who's into carebears?

Does shooting at squirrels while going camping count as hunting???
Someone had to keep them away from the Oreos.
If so, then yes I do hunt two days a year.

Squirrels and rabbits, using a .22 rifle or a shortbow (compounds are for pussies).

I hunted for a few years as a teenager - small game and deer. I liked walking around the woods but wasn't all that keen on the shooting part. However, some of my strongest memories are of hunting. The best sandwich I ever had was a Lebanon bologna (summer sausage) sandwich I had sat on for about 6 hours whilst deer hunting...heck I'm salivating now with the memory.

I like to hunt unprotected teppos, cowardly archers, taishos who don't know when to leave the hooka at the castle, and cavalry so foolish as to not hide behind their spearmen.

It's been a very long time since I've done any hunting. One tends to appreciate Life more, in all of its forms, after becoming well-acquainted with violence. Death ... death is another matter.

Gregoshi offers good advice, Warman. Safe hunting.

A Two Day Course? A TWO DAY COURSE! Gah! I sat in my hunter's ed class three days a week for nigh on three months! and I never even got to fire a shot until two days before the final exam. I mean we had to go over spotting charts and The Five Steps over and over and over so that we knew exactly what we were shooting at before we ever even decided to lay down a shot. I scored my exam with a 97%. Man, Montanan's do take our guns seriously, I bet back then I could've qualified as an Army Marksman or Marine Sniper. lol.

And even after all of that stuff, I have only went hunting three times. The First Time I killed a couple of Sage Grouse, I think I hiked up a Mountain the Second Time and was too exhausted to explore after that, and the third time I had a perfect shot at a 6 by 7 (or 13 Point Elk to you Easterners). I didn't take it, I enjoyed the majestic beauty of the animal too much to kill it, so I went home and had a Steak.

Now when I go hunt animals, I shoot them with my Camera. Still tough, but I appreciate the Hunt more in the end.

Well, just make sure you don't hold the rifle the wrong way around, that's about all I know.

Oh and avoid the faces of your hunting friends when aiming and hunt only what you also want to eat I'd say.

i spent my summers in south west virginia in the blue ridge mountains. A town called Woolwine population 200. My mother sent me there to get me off the street and my uncle had a working farm.

We hunted regularly, trapped, cleaned the animals and then ate them. Hunting for me was an excersise of obtaining food, it was mainly deer but we were able to trap plenty of beaver and rabbit as well.

Why do you want to hunt? Grocery stores are full of choice cuts these days

What I never understood was why they never made winter sausage since huntings take place during the latter half of the year.

There is nothing as satisfying (or healthy) as a ripe venison steak the day after the kill.

Watch your mouth! I hunt with a compound. ;) (Her name is Grace ;))
I like to hunt with bows I make myself, though I have never really killed much with them. I experimented with several variants of homemade bow, but still prefer Grace. :P

I usually don't have any luck during deer season, but I like to go out anyway, just to enjoy nature.

I agree, as I have aged I have developed a distaste for those who hunt for sport (having done so myself many a time in the past) I understand it, support it for ecological balance but raise a brow for those who do so for ego lifts.

For food sources I would have to agree there is really nothing close to killing an animal and enjoying its bounty in terms of a fresh food source.

Me and my friends used to go hunting. It wasn't in the conventional way though - we'd find a bush with a largish animal hiding in it (deer, rabbit, fox), and throw a homemade bomb into the bush. If the animal wasn't severely injured it would run for it's life and then freeze itself when it saw us with a crossbow and air-rifle.

    Good times.

Maybe one day we should go hunting with our homemade napalm? XD

Meat is meat. Once it's in your stomach, it's simply protein.
That said, I've never had the pleasure of actually eating anything I kill, because I've never actually killed anything yet. I mostly just go hunting to get outside into the woods and relax.

That's alright with me. Enjoy the outdoor life. I do, too.
What I resent is killing for Fun and squirrels didn't seem to fall under the category of creatures that are hunted for their meat.
BTW, did you know that they actually remember all the places where they've buried their fodder? It's also funny to see how Crows observe where squirrels bury their stuff to steal it from them.
There's much to be learned from peaceful observing.
Have Fun but please respect life.

I agree with no killing things unless you will eat them...with a few exceptions. I kill things that are harmfull to my pets, my enviornment, etc. Those darn squirrels keep climbing up my birdfeeder and attacking my birds! They also are slaughtering my tulip bed. :P

Don't want a backroom debate or anything, but there is a big difference.
Murder is delibrately killing someone without reason or justification.
The other types of killing are not murder. For instance: accidentally killing someone, killing in self-defence, killing as part of a legal execution on someone deemed worthy of death, etc. As for animals, I would not classify anything as murder, but rather as unethical killing (it is a small difference in words, but very important as you cannot (at least by traditional meaning) murder a non-human). I would consider killing animals for a good reason to be ethical, and killing w/out a reason or with a poor reason unethical.
Good reasons would be things like food, protection (of you, your pets, your family, your crops, etc), furs, etc. I would consider hunting solely for a trophy to be a poor excuse for killing an animal.
I guess that is because I believe that animals were put here for our use, and that we should use them...but not abuse them.
