    Default teutobod

Teutobod was the name of the leader of the Teutones, a Germanic tribe defeated and killed by the Romans. Now, I am wondering whatthe name means. I think Teuto is related to the name of the tribe, but what does the rest mean. Any idea?

...why the heck would an Irish word feature in the name/title of a Germanic warlord...? Although I understand the Germans and Celts mixed quite a bit, so it's conceivable it might be a loan.

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Well, it's never really been determined if the Teutones and Cimbre were either Celtic, Germanic, or a mix.

From all I have read, and there is not much information from that period as it was kind a prehistorical, the idendity of the German tribes hadn't been finished then. Many attributes of the Germanian tribes come from centuries later.

The line between Celtic and Germanian is very thin, there are many similarities. Also the areas must have been mixed.

The Cimbri and the Teutons on the mearch become a mixture anyway. They must have been attracting many other people from other tribes abd cultures.

Well, they could've been kin of the Belgae, who seem to have took a little bit of this and a little bit of that and ended up a fine mix of Germanic and Celtic culture. I do believe they spoke a Celtic language, however.
